Trazodone side effect?

Hi im a 20 year old male, I take 40mg celexa, 2mg xanax and I was just given a perscription for trazodone 50mg at bedtime, ive only taken it once because I wake up a few times thruout the night with a very erect penis, its not painful and it goes away after a little while, It does help me sleep and stops me from worrying so much which kept me from sleeping so I feel I can benefit from it, but that side effect is freaking me out. Should I discontinue or is it safe to be taking? I suffer from PSTD anxiety and depression, I served 3 tours in iraq and I was honorly discharged from the Marine Corps 6 months ago, please help!

Trazadone is a relatively safe medication and is often prescribed to individuals to aid in sleep even though it is a tricyclic anti-depressant.
Nightime errections are not a known side effect of trazadone, so I don't know what could be causing it, other than you're 20 years old. Do you have a girlfriend or wife and are you sexually active. If not your nightime erections could just be a result of lack of activity.
I once knew a guy in the Army with a similar problem and he went to the doctor, who told him to masturbate. No kidding!
Don't discontinue the medication without first discusing it with your doctor.  That would also be a good time to explain this unknown phenomena.
