I recently read about tryptophan being potential helpful for insomniaDepression and insomnia Insomnia concerns Primary insomnia Sleeping difficulty. I took 1 tablet (5-HTP, 50mg) last night and it didn't do anything, so I had 2 more (i.e., up to 150mg with water) later. I don't think it helped me at all. In fact, it made me more anixous because it didn't work. Am I doing anything wrong or do the effects of tryptophan vary? Thank you for your comments. Happy Holidays.
I have had insomniaDepression and insomnia Insomnia concerns Primary insomnia Sleeping difficulty for 25 years. I have tried tryptophan, biofeedback, melatonin, florazapam, Ambian, Sonata, Rosarem, you name it. I am currently going to a sleep specialist, who is also a psychiatrist. He has given me Seroquel which is a psych drug used for people that are schitzophrenic. A lot of doctors are prescribing this strictly for insomnia and depression for people that can't handle the side effects of ssri's i.e., Zoloft, Lexapro, and others. It is the only thing that has ever worked for me, and I wake up in the morning ready to go.
I don't know how bad your insomnia is,but if it is just a minor temporary thing, tryptophan may work for you.
