Very strange feeling in throat - symptom of anxiety?

by char87, Nov 05, 2009 10:24AM
For the past two days I have noticed a very strange sensation in my throat.  It's hard to explain, but it feels like a filmy substance briefly envelopes my throat and it's a slightly suffocating feeling.  It only lasts for a few seconds and then goes away, but reoccurs every so often.

I also feel slightly dizzy and a bit overheated when this occurs, but this could also be in my imagination as I'm probably anxious about what's happening.

Could this whole thing possibly be a result of anxiety?  I'm not sure why it would be, but I have no other explanation.  Please help.

It's possible that what you're feeling is mucous dripping down into the back of your throat from your sinuses. Could be the beginning of a cold. It CAN be a bit of a "choking" sensation if there's enough of it. Are you having any other cold or flu type symptoms? (Tis the season!) The dizziness and overheated symptoms are pretty classic for someone coming down with a cold/flu. Your anxiety is probably just exacerbating these feelings.
When this happens, perhaps you could try a salt water gargle and see if that clears the feeling. Otherwise, watch for other symptoms, like a slight temp and aches and pains..........and do your best not to get obsessed with this.
Naturally, if you are really spooked by this, see your doctor.
Peace
