Very strange night...what was this all about?

Hi everyone :)

Sorry for the double post. I meant for this to go in the "Anxiety and Sleeping" section.

First of all, I am a 48 year old male with a history of GAD/Anxiety, OCD, Hypochondria, Agoraphobia, Tourettes, Depression, occasional Insomnia (early waking mostly) and Sinusitis (along with a deviated septum).

I have been under a great deal of stress lately and after a long period of remission, my anxiety suddenly came to life again in full force recently. I don't handle stress well anymore so anything stressful happens and I usually go all to pieces. Recently, my beloved pet became ill and I have been caring for her for the last 16 days. It has been a series of ups and downs. Just when I think she is getting better, she suddenly takes a turn for the worse. then she gets better again and on and on it goes. I also have a lot of other stresses going on in my life right now as well.

For the past 3-4 weeks I have been experiencing on-again off-again bouts of insomnia where no matter what time I go to bed, I always end up getting about 5-6 hours of sleep and spend the rest of the day feeling exhausted and miserable. I've also been having a lot of strange bodily sensations like occasional (mild) trembling of the hands, feeling very nervous, stressed and jumpy, unfocused eyes, feeling unsteady, dizzy, and lots of brain fog and other mental weirdness.

Last night was a very strange night. At some point (I'm not sure if I was dreaming or if it really happened) but I found myself completely frozen with fear under the covers. I think it was about 2:00AM and I wanted to just get out of bed, make coffee and start my day but for some odd reason I was absolutely terrified to go into the kitchen (I have no idea why). I was even terrified of peeking out from the covers. I don't know why I was suddenly so terrified about getting out of bed or going to the kitchen. There is nothing really "scary" about our kitchen. It's just an average kitchen with a sink, oven, fridge, table/chairs, etc and as I said, I don't even know if I was dreaming this, if it really happened or if it was just my body's way of responding to a nightmare that perhaps I had just had.

At some point after this I actually did have a pretty bad nightmare and woke up several times during the night. When I finally got out of bed, I noticed that the sheets and covers were all over the place so I must have really been moving around during the night.

Anyway, does any of this sound familiar?. What was that "fear of the kitchen" thing all about?. I mean, I don't know if it was a "night terror" because I don't even remember having a nightmare before this thing came over me. It just happened suddenly. One minute I'm asleep and the next, I'm frozen with fear.

Thanks for any input on this. I actually had a good evening the night before so I have no idea what would have caused this "episode" to occur.
