Not a problem...support is what this forum is for. After I checked with my doctor, I just told him that I was taking just a little bit off every week. I just used a knife and kept the fingers out of the way:). I by no means went as accurate as a thousandth of a gram, but I was only on it a year, and it probably took a good couple of months to totally get off of it and I remained on an SSRI like Paxil. If you do it slowly, you really will minimize withdrawal side effects in my opinion, but if you know you will get a few and you are prepared for it, it made it much easier for me.
How did you tackle cutting the small doses you were taking? I bought a scale that can measure out to a thousands of a gram but it's not repeatable and it's pretty hard to be accurate with such small amounts.
I find it amazing that all these Doctors will prescribe these meds but none of them have a real good way to get patients off them. I've read all about switching to Benzos that have a long half life etc etc but the bottom line is they should manufacture these drugs so you can ramp up slowly and ramp down slowly and accurately. In my case I am seeing a licensed head and pill doctor. Had I listened to my pill doc I would be taking 3mg of Klonopin and 20mg of Paxil at this time. I've been on .25mg of Klonopin and 15mg of Paxil for nearly a year and things are working out fine. I only want to try to get off the Klonipin because if I can get along without it that woudl be best. If it turns out I still need it I have it to use.
Thanks for the support.
I always weaned of medications with the advice of my doctor. I was on Klonopin for around a year (not the wafers) and just weaned off a little slower than my doctor suggested. In my opinion, it is never a good idea to go it alone when coming off of these...keep us posted!
