What is going on?

by inhisword26, Jun 13, 2007 12:00AM
Hi, I am a 26 year old female.  I have never had anxiety until the last year or so.  I have not been "diagnosed" but I feel it is the problem.  My question is I have been feeling really "odd" lately.  Tired, headaches, I get really warm all over, upset stomach and just a feeling of constant jitters. I also worry about everything all the time.  This is not normal for me!  I have IBS so I can contribute the stomach problems to that but everything else it crazy for me.  Can this be caused by anxiety?  I have a doctor appoinment next Tuesday but I don't kow how to talk to the Dr. about it without sounding like a hypocondriac.

Hey there, yes all those symptoms can be related to anxiety. In fact anxiety and worrying can also irritate your IBS. Fatigue, headaches, and the "jitters" as you call them are very typical anxiety and stress symptoms. Just mention all those to your Dr. when you go. I have had Anxiety off and on for some time and it is  a real pain, I know. As far as being embarassed or sounding like a hypochondriac, I dont think that you should be worried about that, like I say its better to be safe than sorry...even if it is REALLY safe lol. Im sure your doc has had many worried individauls with little or no symptoms coming in freaked out. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

I'm not sure if this will help but sometimes it is a wake up call. Most of us on here I'm sure have scoured the net for "symptoms" and then locked in on how one of ours fits one of 6 or 7 so we must have it. Well if you look at this whole article on hypochondria is really is eye opening considering for the first time I cover alot fo the symptoms.

From your post, I can guarrentee that your "IBS" is really depression/anxiety.  It sounds like I used to feel.  Talk to the doctor the same way you posted it here.  Tell him that you know that your symptoms are "real" and you would like a complete physical to rule out all physical problems so that you can then concentrate on your mental wellness...I think he/she will totally understand.

(PS:  Mine started at 28!  Total change in how I viewed life virtually overnight..don't know why it happens but it does!)
