When you feel like you are sleeping......but you aren't

When you feel like you are sleeping......but you aren't

Sometimes I feel like I am asleep, but I am not. All I feel is numbness and I can't focus on anything. I also feel pressure that makes me dizzy and trippy.

I am only 12. I have never done drugs, I am not allergic to anything, and when I feel like I'm sleeping, it's usually when I am cold.

Is something wrong with me????? I've been having some family issues (aka- totally hate my life)  Sometimes my BFF feels like she is sleeping too! Help?

Hello and welcome!

You are the same age my daughter, so I know first hand that this can be a confusing and stressful time in your life.  Us adults don't think it should be, but it is.  Unlike when us "old" people were your age, times have changed.  Being 12 is like when we were 15 or 16...there is so much pressure for kids these days to grow up so fast...from cell phones, to make-up, styles, friends, boy/girlfriends...you name it.  And while society and many parents have allowed children to grow beyond their years (even encourage it)...most kids at your age are not mature enough to handle all that comes with it.  So, the end result is a lot of stress and confusion, peer pressure and so forth.

You said you're having some stress at home...that could be part of why your sleep has not been restful.  You're obviously worrying about things and it is affecting the quality of your sleep.  My advice to you is try to talk to a trusted adult about what is going on.  If it involves issues at home (with your parents), then probably seeking out your school counselor would be a great start, because you'd feel more open and willing to discuss it, rather than with someone who is involved in the situation.  If you don't notice an improvement after some "venting", then you really need to tell your parents what is going on and maybe consider a visit to your doctor.

Remember that so much of this stuff is normal transitional growing stuff.  It's hard not to let things upset you, especially at your age...but not everything that feels like a tragedy IS one, and you'll soon learn that as you grow and mature and learn how to better cope with stresses.  Be yourself and enjoy being 12, because you will soon wonder where the time went and long for simpler times.  You have a while to go to grow up...don't rush it hon.  You'll be an adult for the rest of your life, the childhood years go way too fast.

Please let us know how you're feeling!

One more thinig...you said you "hate" your life.  That's a normal way to feel at your age, but if you say this over issues that aren't serious (home distress, like divorce, fighting, moving, money issues...), then you are most likely letting your teen mind dramatize the situation.  Fighting with a BFF or losing a boy/girlfriend will seem like the end of the world at your age, but PLEASE take it from someone who knows...it ISN'T!  ;0)

Hugs to you sweetie.

Oh, it's not like BAD at home!

1. My dad never takes anything seriously! He always laughs!

2. My sister is just a total bad word

That's it! I am doing fine with peers too. I guess sometimes I stay up late......
