Either way..there are very real reasons after either surgery why there would be noticeable changes in someone's affect....of course, it should expected to be temporary.
Like cj said...if it was a traumatic/scaryexperience....that can really affect someone.
Just to piggyback a little bit on what nursegirl said. Any traumatic experience can bring this on in my opinion from physical to mental trauma. For example, when I returned from a couple of deployments, many of my soldiers went through many 'changes' due to trauma both physical and mental Experiences shape us, but what we do with them is the most important thing we can do in my experience. Most of these experiences manifested itself in anxiety and depression, but with the proper help and willingness to confront it, 'normalcy' is very attainable in my opinion. Furthermore, I think we can learn from these experiences and can emerge on the other side a better and more well rounded person...but it can take patience and a lot of hard work.
Any heart bypass, if that's what it is, involves facing one's mortality head on. Most people I know actually became calmer, more accepting of death and appreciative of still being alive, but it can also make someone afraid because you only get a bypass because if you don't you'll die. That's heart, not gastric. I'm assuming heart here. So it's not only the trauma of the surgery, it's facing mortality as well.
