Will 10mg of Prozac be enough to treat Panic Disorder?

Will 10mg of Prozac be enough to treat Panic Disorder?

Hello everybody!  I've been on Prozac since early Feb. of this year.  My doctor started me on 10mg and then upped it to 20mg in April.  Well, I began noticing that I was tired all the time and my energy level was not what it had been.  Then in the past few weeks I started gaining weight, so I panicked and asked my doctor if I could go back to the 10mg.  He said it was ok  (though he admitted to being puzzled as to the sudden weight gain after being on it for awhile).  I suffer from panic disorder with agoraphobia as well as mild depression and a touch of OCD.  I did notice some relief when I was on the 10mg and didn't seem as tired but I'm wondering if the dosage is still considered too low to reap the full benefits?  Is there anyone else out there who has been staying on 10mg with good results?  Your input will be most appreciated!

Namaste,

Prozac is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Prozac affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression, panic, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive symptoms.

Prozac is used to treat major depressive disorder, bulimia nervosa (an eating disorder) obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

Prozac may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

I'm also puzzled by the weight gain, since, although a possible side effect at such a low dosae as 20 mg., I wouldn't have thought it to be a problem.

Since dosages of up to 80 mg per day are possible and 20 mg in the a.m. is considered the best starting point, if it was working for you, I would suggest going back to 20 mg.

The decision is your, however, and there are some steps you can take to minimize any weight gain including your diet and exercise. Your choice depends on afew extra pounds or a better quality of life.
