Withdrawal from Xanax. 25mg

So, I'm a 27 year old woman. I was prescribed Xanax. 25mg at the er because I was having terrible panic attacks at work. I didn't want to take it because of the addiction risk. I cut it in half a I only took it at bedtime for two weks. I have decided that I don't want to continue to take it. This is my third day without taking it and I have terrible nausea, headaches on and off, and muscle pain. I know that I was on the lowest dose and I was cutting it in half, but could I be having withdrawals and hoe long can this last since I was taking such a small amount? Will I be ok in a week?

So, it's my 5th day without the Xanax. I made it halfway through my work day. The symptoms are still there, but they aren't lasting as long. I think if I make it 7 days I will be ok.

Even though you weren't taking the Xanax for too long, and were taking a pretty small dose daily, Paxiled is right that to play it safe, a taper is recommended.  It's less harsh on the system than just abruptly stopping the medication.

Give your doctor a call in the morning to let him/her know what's going on.  If the symptoms remain bothersome, he/she may recommend resuming the Xanax and doing a taper.

Best of luck, let us know how you're feeling.

Thanks. It's scary because I have never experienced anything like this before. This is day 4 and although the symptoms aren't lasting as long, they just really make me uncomfortable.

Just goes to show that everyone is different and that's why you should always play it safe and slowly taper off these meds and give your nervous system a chance to come back to balance.

Xanax doesn't stay in your system very long, it's fast acting and then it goes after a bit. Everyone has different tolerance levels towards medication but since you were taking it for such a short period of time and at such a low dose I'm surprised that it's giving you a withdrawal like that. Having taken and stopped taking the same medication I don't think what you are feeling will stay much longer. If it does see your doctor. I think part of why the symptoms may be a little bit worse is because of anxiety from the symptoms you feel. If the panic attacks are still happening and you don't want to take medication I would look into seeing a therapist to help you with your anxiety. Hang in there and you'll be good.
