Xanax and Self Injury

Xanax and Self Injury

I am in serious need of help with my situation. I have S.I.ed (cut) for about 2 years now. I was put on 2mg of Xanax 3 times a day for this. My S.I. has continued throughout the years I have taken the Xanax. I have been on Paxal, Zoloft, Cymbalta, Effexor, Zantrax?(something with a Z low dose 10mg) , Klonopin, Wellbutrin, and last but not least, Lithium. (Although I could not afford the blood work so I dropped lithium in 2 days) I am sure I have been on more meds, I just can't think of all the names now.

Here is my problem. I desperatly want to stop taking Xanax. I know that I am addicted to it. I rely on it when I  don't cut or when my anxiety peaks top level. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. But, the symptoms I have with it are tearing me up. How do I get off of this medicine? I went to see a doctor today and he told me to go to the psychiatric ward to get off of it. He said my dosage was so high that he wouldn't treat me to get me off it. Then, he also said that it is very dangerous(which i do know) to do it yourself. So, I have no money, and I cant afford to go hardly anywhere but a doctor, I don't know what to do. Any advice?

Thank you for your time

Unfortunately, I think you need to trust your doctor on this one.  Something that is dangerous to do on your own, and your doctor has advised you not to do, should NOT be done - very serious complications could arise.

I think you need to work on the financial aspect of this so you can go to the psyc ward  and wean off the xanax in a controlled fashion.  Can someone lend you the money for the treatment?  Can you save it up over the next few months and get treatment then?  Will the hospital accept a monthly payment plan to pay for the treatment?  Are there any programs available in your area to help people with medical treatment that can not otherwise afford it?  Do you have health insurance and, if not, is this something you could get before the treatment?

Thank you for replying. I called the actual doctor today after visiting my "new" doctor and left a message for him to call me as well. I wanted to get his advice on it also.

It is quiet unfortunate but I do not have health insurance. Although, I wish I did. I probably will have it within 3 months.

I am trying my best to stay away from the psychiatric ward. Hopefully, I can be referred to someone who can help me outpatient...but if I have no other option,  I will go.

Thanks again for replying.

Oh, I did forget to add one thing. I did call the psych ward in my area and ask if  I should come in. They told me no, this isn't something that I would have to go to the psych ward for necessarily. I am  not suicidal, so they couldn't understand why he was telling me this is my only option. Again, thank you.
