Xanax withdrawal??

about 2 months ago i was popping xanax left and right for about a week because it helped me sleep.  I had no idea about its effects or withdrawals.  so i ran out and about 2 day later had a numbing sensation come over my entire body, i felt completely out of it, like i was literaly feeling like i was going crazy.  well, the doctor put me on them now 1.5 mg 3 times a day.  i still have skin numbness and occassionally feel out of it.  i want off this sh*t!!!  how should i taper down??  and is it okay to still be feeling numb??  is that even a side effct from the med?

I hope you were 'popping' Xanax as it was prescribed by your doctor.  It is never a good idea to self medicate with any prescription drug let alone a benzo like Xanax.  One can build a tolerance to this and there are withdrawals if you quit to quickly, but they can be managed a lot better if you taper slowly.  Have you asked your doctor about your symptoms and your desire to come off of this medication?
