I was going to maybe wean it down by .25 mg .Then go down to 1.5 and stay there until I speak to doc. Thanks for your your advice and concern
Just be sure to work with your Dr. on your weaning, so you can minimize side effects. Also, be aware that you can get some rebound anxiety as you taper down, but it will settle itself out. Just ride it out.
Good luck...and hope your fatigue improves.
Also, you might want to add a multi-vitamin, now, too.
It seems that what I am experiencing is a derict result of medicating my self with alcohol. When I stopped I have been experiencing psycological symptoms that are causing severe stress, depression and anxiety. I think that this is what is causing the fatigue. I do not think that the xanax is causing the fatigue after thinking alot about it over the last week. I am trying to get down to 1.5 mgs. I am currently taking 2 mgs a day. .05 mgs 4x daily. I started zolft yesterday for the depression.I have not had any luck with anti depressants.
Did you have the same level of exhaustion that you are now experiencing BEFORE you started to take xanax? Or, is this a new level?
Hey, sorry i did not get back to you. My anxiety I think started before I drank. When I started to drink when I was around 16 years old I loved it because it made that fear, panicky feeling go away. I always had phobias like hypochondria, fears of dying in front of people like that. So when I started to feel my mind going off on something that made me pannick I would drink. It started like that and then over the years alcohol just became apart of my being, apart of me like my leg is a part of my body.Hope your feeling ok.
Hi, yes I have anxiety disorder and am on xanex. I have general anxiety disorder, panic disorder with agoraphobia and lately, social anxiety as well. I generally take .5 mg 3 times a day except when I have to do something like cross a bridge or drive on a freeway or do something really anxiety provoking for me. On days like that, I need 2 mg of xanex to do anything and another 2 mg of xanex if I'm in the same situation 4 hours later. It is common for people with anxiety to abuse alcohol so I'm happy that you quit. I have found that xanex is the only benzo or only med period that will help me with panic attacks. I don't know about the generalized anxiety disorder that I also have. I think I could get by on something like klonopin for that, but would still need xanex for panic attacks and no doctor that I know of would prescribe different benzos for the 2 different conditions.
Did your anxiety only appear after you quit drinking or was it present before you started drinking? There are a lot of different benzos or antidepressants that help other people with anxiety without making them tired. You may just have to try different meds until you find one that works for you. Or, therapy could work. For me, I have tried therapy and meds. I found that for years I was pretty anxiety free and now it's back with a vengence - the therapy does not seem to be making it any better and the only thing that does work is the xanex but I don't like being addicted to it. My dr. describes it like a diabetic needing insulin and I can buy that except for he draws the line at 4 mg of xanex/day. I could agree with him as some days I only need 1 mg, but other days I need 6 mg and now I stress myself out about how much xanex I am taking so I make sure I don't go over 4 mg no matter what. I hope you feel better soon.
Do you have an anxiety disorder and are you on benzos now. I hope I am not rude for asking. I'm just getting mixed messages from people about the xanax. I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. Do you know what that is. Maybe I'm anxous and I do not realize it. I also stopped drinking nine months ago and ever since I stopped I feel terrible. The alcohol was probably masking everything.
A lot of people say that xanex makes them very tired. I believe you and don't know why your doctors don't. It doesn't work that way for me (would need about 5 or 6 mg for me to even get sleepy).
