Well if you have depression you should probably not smoke marijuanaDrug abuse I stopped smokingQuitting smoking Smoking - tips on how to quit Smoking and copd (chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder) Smoking and smokeless tobacco Smoking hazards it 2 years ago because it made my depression and axiety worse. The medication is given to you to help level the chemical imbalance and when you add drugs of any kind even alcohol affects the ability for those meds to do what they are given to you for. So hence if you dont stop you may never ever really know if those particular meds are even helping you I dont know about you but I was not about to go round and round with these meds makeing me worse or better untill I find the right one not to mentionall the weight gain that is involves in it to me its just not worth it and beleive you me I was a heavy marijunana smoker too I loved it but when I fiqured out that it was just making me worse I stopped. You say xanax works for you I cant offer much advice about that cause it makes my axiety worse too.
I think eventually we must all wean off the meds, sooner or later, unless our illness can't be treated in any other way (basically therapy), because meds make us psychologically dependant. I personally think xanax, lexapro and marijuanaDrug abuse is too much and that you'd eventually be better off without them all, but it can't be done overnight -I think first of all you must address the underlying problems that you have, which made you turn to medication and marijuana. Substances, legal or illegal, can cut off the edge for a while, but the problem is still there.
Hi, I think you should stop smoking marijuana, see how you go and seek help from a psychologist, they will show you about whats happening to you. They can teach you ways of handleing situations that really work. Then maybe you will be able to take away the meds, as others have said it takes time and it does get better and easier. I suffer from depression, anxiety and panic attacks I have been on meds and also xanax when needed, after 6 mths with a psychologist I have been able to managed my anxiety to a certain extend and I'm feeling much better. I still have a way to go, but if I can do it so can you, just one step at a time.. I hope every thing works out..
Hi, I really don't know much about MD's or psychiatry, but I have had a substance abuse problem, and smoking marijuana while on any kind of perscription drug can lead to that. I personally would quit doing that, but if you feel that the xanex is working for you, then you should keep up with it. As for the depression.. ehhh I would say go see a psychiatrist for that, because depression can lead to dangerous feelings. I also suffer from anxiety & depression. The medications will help at first just don't end up relying on them for everything, learn different coaping skills, I just recently lost a very close family member so I know it's hard dealing with that. But the decision of what you end up doing is in the end yours. Good luck with it
All I want to add to this is for everyone that thinks the meds will cure you They will not they will only cover up the real problems and over a long period of time make you even worce these drugs are addictive no matter what the Drs say.
I am also a gay male who has suffered anxiety. My partner died in an accident and I ad/have an underactive thyroid gland. There may be other underlying problems that are creating your anxiety and panic. Have your doctor check your thyroid. This is a common cause of anxiety, too.
When I have suffered terrible attacks, I have taken a small amount of valium which truly was a godsend. Doctors some times are patronizing and ask rude insulting questions to gay people like us...(I have been asked why my hair color is the color it is? why am I pale?;
Good luck on conqering this problem. I know anxiety and panic attacks are very real and physiologically devesatting as well as psychologically troubling....

All of you have had wonderful advice and you have helped me... I will get therapeutic counseling
I know because in my line of work, I give similar advice, however I have trouble taking it. By the way, Tommy1961, you have a good point. I too have an underactive thyroid and can not take synthroid well as it makes me jittery. They have me on levoxyl instead and I am told I am at a significant dose... I suppose I should "get off the weed" however I feel that I didn't tell everyone enough info however I am gay, (no one ever knows I am gay unless I tell them)...also, I have always smoked Mj since I was 19 years old.... I am not a heavy smoker and have always had a joint when I came home from work. I work with psychiatrists (due to my job) and ALWAYS have helped them counsel people not to smoke mj or drink as it (thc) interacts with many drugs blocking the same receptor sites in the brain. Too many studies have been done that have been funded by the "war on drugs" and not the scientific community for me to "take on" the whole anti-weed issue, anyway. By the way Verona your advice is very good and I often give it to people in almost the exact same words! ... :) I am on Lexapro and Xanex is because my MD (who is an osteopath) knows that I smoke Mj and rarely drink never smoke ciggs and am gay. (Ohhh I will have a Kaluha and cream every now and then, but that is it :). my heart really goes out to Tommy1961... I have always had it so easy with people not knowing my lover and I are gay...they always assume we are brothers.... or otherwise related. Thank you Tommy for trying to help me and give me advice ... I hope people reach out to you and give you the same caring hand you offered to me.
Just a quick comment about the marijuana use.....I stopped smoking last July after using it for the better part of 25yrs.....I can't tell you what a difference it's made as far as depression and anxiety goes. It's very difficult to give up, I know, but it made all the difference in my mental health when I completely stopped. I've stopped smoking many times, but obviously not long enought to really notice a difference.....now 5mos later I feel like a different person. Weed causes anxiety for lots of people, maybe your one them?
