Xaxax withdrawal

I have only taken Xanax .25 once a day for eight days.  I want to quit taking it, can I just stop or shall I wean myself off only after that short time.  I did not take a pill yesterday and felt fine, today I did not take one and feel a bit shakey.

godsdragon.........I can see how you could think I was referring to you when I wrote about Xanax horror stories. I obviously could have written that part better, more clear, and I do apologize that it came off sounding like I was accusing YOU of authoring horror stories. Your post made a simple statement of fact, one that all of us who have been on Xanax for an extended period of time could relate to.

I don't need to Google anything about Xanax. I am very, very personally aware of just how many of us there are that have intimate knowledge of Xanax and the nightmare it can be to withdraw from it.

And I have absolutely no issue with you recommending she see her doctor. If you reread my post, you will see that I also made that recommendation.

Yet another mistake I believe I made was writing that the posters "side effects" were all in her mind. That should have read........"It is my humble opinion that any and all "WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS" the poster is feeling are all in the mind. No doubt made much worse by reading the horror stories people like to share here."

I still stand firmly by my opinion that taking a total of 2mg will produce no symptoms of withdrawal. She was on a very small dose for a very short time and would not have built up a tolerence..........therefore, no withdrawal. I also believe that people who are already anxious about a particular medication should avoid Googling about it at all cost.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but when you talk to me about the nightmare of withdrawing from Xanax, you're preaching to the choir. I'll see your YEAR and raise you TEN.

You are definitely NOT having withdrawal symptoms.  You may be having your original anxiety.  I take Celexa and klonopin.  The reason I went back on the klonopin this time was because of that shaky feeling.  Almost like inner trembles.  Of course the shaky feeling would trigger the anxiety and so on.  The Celexa kept the panic attacks under control for the most part.  It was the transient shakes that got me.  I do have to admit the shakiness always passed after awhile.  It was just very hard for me to focus when I felt weak and shakey.

You sound just like the doctor, that is exactly what he said, it can happen at any time, now that I know what it is, your advice is good, just let it happen and it will go away soon.  I think I just had a lot of anxiety about taking so many medications, I have stomach issues and too many medications set that off so all I did was worry, worry and worry.

Anxiety has a habit of randomly popping up. But it can be managed. If it starts to interfere with your life maybe try some counseling but if it doesn't just try to ignore the annoying symptoms and move on.

Your right I think a lot of my anxiety is in my head.  I had a bad bout with a virus this past January which ended me up in the hospital for a few days, one thing then led to another and I was on all types of different antibiotics and then finally prednisone for a sinus infection.  I had no problems at all with anxiety until after I finished up the prednisone.  I got the shakes then and a doctor told me it may be anxiety from being sick on and off for months, so they told me to take a Xanax every day for a few weeks. which I took for one week then quit.
I am better but every now and then still get the shakes.  I never realized that this could be anxiety.  There is nothing else going on in my life that would cause me to have anxiety.  I guess there is a first for everything.

Yea..I was taking 1.5 to 2mg a day for a couple of months and experienced horrible withdrawals...but if I take the .25mg I'm prescribed now every day for a few days I can stop taking it with no problem. And my withdrawals started immediately after I stopped taking them when I was on that high dose. The first day I didn't take one I was soo sick. I agree that the shakiness is just from the original anxiety and not withdrawal.

Taking Xanax for a year DOES require a medically supervised, slow taper/withdrawal.
Taking a TOTAL of 2mg over an 8 day period, does not. It is my humble opinion that any and all "side effects" the poster "Justy" is feeling are all in the mind. No doubt made much worse by reading the horror stories people like to share here.

You may feel some small side effects. It depends on how long you have been taking this medicine. Always ask a doc about stopping a med of this sort. The dose does not seem large so it should not take long or be difficult to stop taking it.

Dosage wise, you've only taken a total of 2mg. There will be no withdrawal symptoms from that amount of Xanax. That you went one day without it and felt fine is all the proof you need. Xanax withdrawal would not "wait" a day to hit you.
The shakey feeling is perhaps a symptom of the original reason you were prescribed Xanax in the first place.
I still strongly advise that you see your doctor again, not only to let them know you've stopped the medication, but WHY you've stopped it.
Xanax is a fairly powerful benzo and most doctors will not prescribe it unless they feel it is really needed. If you didn't like how it made you feel, there are other meds out there. But whatever took you to the doctor in the first place has probably not resolved itself. Don't let yourself get too close to the edge, OK?
Peace
