Zoloft 100mg with 1mg Ativan

I was just prescribed Zoloft 100mg (generic version) and 1mg of Ativan (generic version) today by my Dr. and was wondering if anyone else has had any success with the two? I am supposed to begin by taking half of a pill of of the zoloft for the first week then to go to a whole week after the first week. I was given the Ativan to help me with my anxiety attacks and also for insomnia. I was wondering if anyone has ever had this combo and had any luck and also wondering of any kind of side effect issues i may have until i adjust to the drugs? I was previously on Lexapro and .5 of ativan and switched today to the Zoloft and bumped up the mg of ativan to 1 mg.

If I can help you it all I would say to get off the ativan asap. I was on it for about 6 months and found that if I didnt take it I would have worse anxity attacks than before i was on it. I had to slowly come off of it and it was horrable. I had very bad rebound attacks. Please google ativan and read all you can on what it does and the side affect. As for the zoloft good luck, I was on a few differnt kinds of AD's so it may take a few trys to find one that works for you. I wish you luck.

Hmuch Lexapro were you taking?  To be honest, that is a pretty high dose of Zoloft, I would be concerned about starting out so high, even with you vbeing on Lexapro..these meds are not interchangeable like that.  You can't always easily replace one for another.  It's far better to be tapered down off one, while GRADUALLY be tapered UP on another.  You really may have some bad side effects, and without any tapering off the Lexapro before starting the Zoloft, you may even be at risk for Serotonin Syndrome.  I really don't think it's appropriate to be on two SSRIs at the same time.

PLEASE talk with your doc first about this.  Is he a psychiatrist?  If not, I highly recommend finding one, they are much better at managing these meds.
