Zoloft-3 weeks-still 'a little' nervous

Zoloft-3 weeks-still 'a little' nervous

Hi all.  I've been on Zoloft for 3 weeks now.  I was on 25mg for the first 2 weeks then went to 50mg.  I am doing better but still not 100%.  I am still having the nervousness & anxiousness in the mornings although not as bad as before.  It seems to let up around noon.  I have been taking a quarter of Ativan also with the Zoloft until the Zoloft kicks in.  I'm trying to go without that today just to see how I'll do.  What I am wondering is should this nervousness be gone by now?  I'm still trying to get back that contentment of having the house to myself and being alone that I once LOVED!   I seem to be okay in the late afternoon and night but want to be "FINE" all day long!   I have called about therapy, just to talk with a counselor, but it will take over a month to get in & to see the psychiatrist who can deal with the medication plus therapy, it will take over 2 months.  Right now, I had just seen a PA who prescribed the Zoloft.   Basically I'm wondering if the Zoloft is just going to take a little longer for me to get rid of this nervousness all together or should I try another medication?  Thank you!

I should add in that I seem to do better when I go to work rather than when I'm home on the weekends, which seems to 'weird' and odd to me.  That's what really bothers me because of course, a person should be ecstatic and relaxed on the weekends!!!  Also, I think I'm worried because I will soon have the whole summer off from work, which 'usually' just made be EXTREMELY happy and giddy---who wouldn't be, right.   I'm just worried that I'll have this darn anxiousness about me and won't be able to enjoy it.  I know I shouldn't worry just yet but...............that seems to be my middle name--worry-wart.   Thanks for any insight once again.

Hey I just got on zoloft and I am on 25mg and next week i have to start 50 mg, but i just saw a shrink and he said that it takes about 4 weeks to 6 weeks to even have the medication start taking its efffect... I guess i have a question for you.... do you wake up kinda shaky and a little dizzy? or how about constant dizziness through out the day?

Hi.  Well, it seems I am fine right upon awakening.  It's about an hour later, after I've taken the Zoloft, that I just feel anxious.  I was having this tingling in my arms at first.  The first 4 days or so, I seemed a little dizzy or just in a fog.  That went away.  As far as this nervousness, I had that "before" the Zoloft and that's why I was put on it so it's hard to say whether I'd do better without the Zoloft or not.  I guess I will see after next week what I am feeling like.  That will be one month.  Take care.

Also.........today I did not take that little bit of Ativan that I usually do & I have felt nervous all day.  It's 3:00pm and usually I am better by mid morning WITH the Ativan plus Zoloft.  UGGGGGGGGH.  Does anyone else use Ativan daily?  I think I will post another topic on that mediciation.  :-(

Hello,

Zoloft can absolutely be an upper for many people.  It should calm down, it took almost 6 weeks before I could sleep and I would take mine early in the morning!  I never doubled my dose because of this - I take 25mg and it helps just fine.  Another thing I figured out is I cannot tolerate Caffeine while on Zoloft I get way to wired.  So it's decaf for me.  Maybe you don't need to take 50mg either.  For awhile I even got up around 4 AM to take my Zoloft so that I wouldn't keep me up the next night - that helped allot.

I have talked with you before and was wondering how you were.  As far as Ativan, I too was given something similar (Xanax)  to take along with my Zoloft but I choose not to.  I was to afraid of getting hooked.  I knew the "feeling hyper side effects" would lesson and they did.  Nice to hear from you again - take care.  Erin

I feel just like you.  I started zoloft 3 wks ago and started having side effects right away.  they were tolerable however except the nervousness and anxiety like feeling I have in the morning.  I take my dose at night.  It is just awful.  i feel almost like I can not function.  I started on 50mg but had to cut back to 25mg due to the nervousness.  I tried to work back up to 50mg but everytime I get to 50 the nervousness becomes unbearable.  I was given ativan but did not take it in the day only at night before bed.  It makes me tired. My doctor wants to switch me to a different med now because I am feeling somewhat the same as when I started.  does this sound right?  Should I give the zoloft more time?  today has been a good day.  the new med is for bipolar.  I definately do not think I am bipolar  never had the mania at all.  this new med scares me  side effects are very serious.   I don't know what to do.  I want to give the zoloft a bit longer Dr. does not want to.   what do you think?

I am glad to hear you say that you do well on 25 mg of Zoloft.  I had a problem when going up to 50, too much nervousness, hot flashes and nausea.  I think the 25 is working just fine for me.  I know that the dose is usually at least 50, but if 25 works, then I'm happy with that!

Hello.  After posting the very first post, I ended up doing fine.  The nervousness seemed to go away, even in the mornings, "knock on wood".  (I'm so superstitious that I feel I can't brag on anything or the opposite happens......which seems to happen to me a lot).   It seems now that I am almost "hyper" at times, to where I have too much energy as if I've had too much caffeine.  I talk faster and just go, go, go.   ?   Not sure what that is all about.  Anyone done that??   I don't know if I want to go down to 25mg as I hate to start the nervousness again.  That was horrible.  I quit taking the Ativan also, which I'm thrilled about. I was afraid of becoming addicted to that even though I was only taking a quarter of the pill.  (I started with a half then halfed that eventually.)

Maryann, as far as your nervousness, it may be from the 50mg.  I've read that a lot from various people.  I had the nervousness to begin with, BEFORE the Zoloft & that was the reason for me being put on it in the first place.  It took the full 2 weeks and a little more for that to go away.  I had that for 2 weeks before even starting the medication.  A co-worker of mine takes half of the 25mg and does fine.

Erin, nice to hear from you again.  Hope your doing okay.

Take care everyone!
