anxiety and tics for 9 year old

Can anyone tell me if they have had tics with their anxiety?
My daughter has GAD generalised anxiety disorder, she sufferred a bad depression last year and started to press her privates as if she is uncomfortable a year on she is still doing this but has also started to clear her throat ( a common tic apparently) her therapist has said he thinks they are due to the anxiety, I have not found anything to link tics as part of anxiety, I can only find tourettes a tic disorder linked with anxiety,bipolar,ocd,etc.. any comments would be appreciated.

I used to clear my throat all the time, but I had allergies.  But I think anxiety can cause just about anything, and also might not be the cause of anything.  I don't think you're going to find a definitive answer.  You might want to post a question on this for Dr. Gould on the mental health forum.

you should stay in very close contact with doctors you trust. keep appointments and share all your concerns with them. if she has anxiety/depression make sure they aren't just treating her medically. that can have a very negative effect later in life. that is to say, it's never a good idea to put a 9 year old on meds for depression and ignore psychotherapy. at that age things change...sometimes they change very quickly....thats why i say the best thing you can do is keep taking her to the doctor be very pro-active in helping to get her well. be involved with her therapy.

i was a mess at 9...it's a miracle i made it through. but i had an amazing therapist who only kept me on meds for as long as i needed them and he actually diagnosed me correctly. plus my mom was a major part of my treatment. she was very involved...though i didn't realize it so much at the time. the ways she helped me then have helped me enormously as an adult with my anxiety/depression. best of luck to you.
