You might try some things that are known to be relaxing during this time of transition as the drug gets into your system.  Things like yoga and medication as well as all exercise are very beneficial to one's mental health.  I also hope that you are doing traditional talk therapy as this along with medication is the best route to overcoming anxiety and depression long term.

Venlaflaxine has a generalized anxiety disorder indication and is used with success in many patients that have anxiety and depression although it is not for everyone.  The classes of drugs known as the SSNI's as well as the SSRI's can be trial and error to find the right fit for someone.  However, a week is a very short time to judge that unless the start up side effects are too unbearable at which time you should call your doctor.  Hopefully this will work out for you and you will be feeling better soon.  keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.  best of luck to you

The question would be if your main problem is anxiety or depression.  Effexor is a very difficult med, and it's a stimulating med as it targets both norepinephrine as well as serotonin.  The stimulating antidepressants can make anxiety worse, or create it where there is none, but is often very effective for depression because often stimulation is needed there.  While the above is true that it takes time to see if an antidepressant works or not, don't wait too long if you continue to have these problems --  the sooner you move on when a med doesn't suit you the easier it is to move on.  Good luck.

Hi there and welcome.  So you've started venlafaxine (venlablue)/effexor.  This medication does have some start up or transient side effects associated with it.  That means that early on while taking it, a person can have short term side effects as their body gets used to the medication.  They typically go away and the drug should be up and working by 6 to 8 weeks.  It is disappointing that you are feeling your anxiety worsen but again this could be due to the transient nature of early side effects.  You've only been on it for a week.  I would continue to try taking the medication to give it a chance.  If the symptoms worsen to being intolerable or if depressed enough you are thinking of self harm, of course call your physician.  But I would do your very best to give the drug a chance to work.

Let us know how it goes and wishing you all the best!
