anxious, depressed,etc.

Hi. I've suffered my entire life with social phobia and mild OCD and somehow I've managed to hide it from everyone, except for my immediate family.  I started taking Paxil for mild social phobia about four years ago, which has helped slightly. Two years ago I met my soon to be husband, who happens to be on methadone for serious back pain.  He too suffers from social phobia and he told me that methadone also helps him in social situations; he also takes Paxil.  So, one day about six months ago I tried 1/2 of a 10mg. pill and ever since then I've taken 10mg. every other day.  My life has totally changed.  I'm the person I always wished I could've been. I can easily express myself in social and one on one situations.  I can think clearer, I'm happier, I'm not worried all the time like before.  I guess my question is, Is Methadone ever prescribed for people like me?  I'd like to go and sit down with my doctor and tell her that what this drug has done for me and that I'd love to be prescribed 15 10mg pills per month but I'm scared to, because I don't have any of the symptoms that methadone is normally prescribed for; herion addicts and serious pain.

Please Help.

Maybe just sit down with your doctor and mention about being on medication for anxiety then casually bring up someone that you know who takes methadone and what it does for them? Ask if that could help for you? Just tell your doctor that the paxil alone is not helping for everything and that you want to feel better. Good luck to you.

Have you ever heard of methadone being used for anxiety and or OCD? I've done a little bit of research on it and the only thing that I can find online about it is that it's used for chronic pain and herion detox?

I've been on meth about 30yrs at 30-50 mg a day depending on what yr it was. I had a job that was extremely stressful. My D put me on paxil with the meth. The 1st month it was great but the nx 2 were worse than before I took paxil. In fact I've now lost my job because of my anxiety (working with 50 women didn't help). I'm wondering if the yrs of taking meth as well as abusing other drugs has taken a toll on my brain. ( By the way since I'm out of work I started to go down in my meth dose. Dropped yesterday from 30 to 20. I got off once before for a yr and the whole yr I never felt good. Meth is a "mean mistreater"

yes  the methadone  can give you so to speak energy..im on now since i tapper to 2.5 mgs aday..you wouldnt think that such a low dose would help my pain but it DOES ALOT.. and if your not on it i would keep it that way..my speaking for myself its a hard med to break..im now at day 47 since tapper..its put me threw alot..but down hill..i got alot of pains now that i never thought i even had..ur man knows what i mean about methadone..everone thats on a opiate knows the ways of the drugs....
