can anxeity cause joint pain?

Hey all i was wondering if anyone here has felt joint pain due to anxiety? I am getting really worried. I had some other symptoms (stomach aches etc.) so i was going across the internet..and of course leukemia came up. So suddenly i was scared I have leukemia, I have had joint and bone pain that subsides when I concentrate on something else. Has anyone had this? I have doctor's appointment and blood test in two days. I dont know if i can wait that long!! Sometimes the pain is just vague, but other times it is very noticable. It never really lasts for more than a minute, but as soon as one area stops aching, a few minutes later...another area starts. Is this because I am so worried? Thanks! Good Luck to everyone.

My opinion anxiety causes not only pain but mineral loss, calcium loss - that's why we experience joint pain, muscle pain... I've studied a little neurobiology at faculty, enough for me to see that the processes in the brain work with the help of calcium, NaCl.  From here little by little I was able to draw some conclusions - during stress, anxiety or intense intellectual work the brain consume huge amounts of calcium and magnesium. Those amounts are extracted rapidly from bones, especially from teeth and joints. That's why whenever I experienced anxiety I've also experienced bones aches in different places, especially teeth. I was loosing calcium and eventually teeth begun to deteriorate. After I draw those conclusions I've begun to take care of me more - adding supplements every month and in the bad days taking a larger dose * of course I've read a lot, and respected the correct doses. With lot of care even in bad days now I don't have those bone pains anymore. The problem has been solved. However muscle pain it's still there but this one I can handle with massage.

Guest what. I'm going through the same thing right now, even after a pcr test almost 5 months from exposure. Anxiety is such a menace, the negative thoughts can be quite detrimental.
I'm going through the same thing. Didn't even have do anything that puts one at risk. Just have it in my head that their could be a chance. Took a test came out negative but keep having "symptoms".

Anxiety can have so many floating symptoms. It is ruthless.
It can even make your teeth itch. Go figure.
If a few of us unfortunate souls are wired with anxiety (GAD) since birth
it only makes sense if there is trauma, illness, stress and etc. it will go
up notches. If it gets overwhelming then seek counseling and maybe medication
had to be taken...no shame in that. For goodness sake do not if you can help
it surf the net for all sorts of answers to your symptoms...my hand is up for that
one. I found it only increased things. Anxiety likes to dwell on the negative and it
becomes a vicious circle. This forum helps because we understand as we are
walking the same road. But we are at the same time individuals and we will
react to medication differently. If you have been prescribed meds by your doctor
ask him/her the side effects. If they are not many and you can handle it, go for it.
Sufferers from anxiety may even find it hard to swallow that pill I am guilty of that one.
But I told myself do I want to get better....just have some support in place if you feel apprehensive ...like a spouse, friend . Ride the symptoms out your body takes time to adjust...might be nausea, fatigue, etc. plod on. If it is just too uncomfortable then go back to your doctor and explain this. For myself I am such a chicken my doctor told me to begin slowly to take 1/4 of a pill for a few days, then slowly increase ...I had my
my anxiety meds handy. Some folks like the natural way to control anxiety. But for me with my medical problem and high anxiety I have to go the med route to get things under control...under a doctor's care of course. I know I am waffling on but I feel for you folks who want to get better but feel at a halt as to what to do in the med department.
I do not like medication...I rarely take a pain pill. But the anxiety is controlling my life , that I cannot even move out of bed in the morning...I feel glued and immoblized.
You know yourself , do what is right for you.

Take care

Anxiety can definitely cause both joint and muscle pain. I've been dealing with it for 6 months. There is a great website called ****.*** that describes all the various symptoms. I've had a lot of them, but the muscle and joint pain have been the worst to overcome because they scare me the most. But it truly is just anxiety. So is burning, weird head pains, and on and on. It just takes a long time to get your system calmed back down again. But don't worry, it won't really hurt you. Just need to do lots of relaxation. Good luck!

Every single time I have been under extreme stress in the last few years, my left knee has become extremely painful.  In divorce court, I thought I had dislocated it or something.  After the divorce, it was fine.  Then I lost my house, and during the move it got so bad I could not even help my kids pack my stuff.  After I was setteled in my apartment, it was fine.  I made the connection between anxiety and my bad knee just recently.  It had been fine since I moved, but last weekend one of my molars actually fell apart in my mouth, and I have extreme anxiety at the thought of any dental work.  As I was walking into the dental office to have what was left of the tooth extracted, I almost fell down with the extreme pain, guess where, in my left knee.  So all of you who are wondering if anxiety can cause knee pain, I am living proof.

I had night sweats, and a dry mouth, sore throat in the mornings. I went to doctor, of course scared to death because I was googling for symptoms and finding things like leukemia etc. So he did blood cell count, early I had a blood cell count with differential ( done (some time in summer), with some other analysis like Strep A probe. In short results are negative for Strep A, blood cell count a little high 10.5, their range is 3.5-12.5 in other places it is 4-10 or 4-11. Yes it is strange there is no concrete value for "normal" range. So based on this and based on previous differential blood test my doctor says I've no leukemia, no other life threateningly decease. He says it's anxiety disorder. I had some stress recently and lot's of real reasons for anxiety and I acknowledge  I was all dizzy and nervous recently (I quit smoking a month ago, that might cause a big depression alone). But I still wonder if that may cause the night sweats. Now the night sweats are gone, at least I don't wake up from them in the middle of the night all sweat. I have the dry mouth symptoms still. And now I'm having joint pain and feeling they are swollen a little. I haven't seen my doctor yet and I feel a little uncomfortable talking to him ( I didn't like his attitude last time, he was too confident and comfortable claiming it's anxiety etc :).  Also I was drinking alcohol probably more frequently during this time and that might be causing this joint pain ? I found this in internet http://www.steadyhealth.com/CAN_ALCOHOL_AFFECT_JOINTS__t89958.html
But to me all this seems like symptoms of some untreated infection ( bacterial or viral ) just causing all these. I just I feel uncomfortable to start a new conversation about this with my doctor ... it becomes a verbal and intellectual battle rather than a dialog trying to understand the problem ...

I have joint pain. It is mostly hands and sometimes ankles. Migrates from place to place. Although I notice it more at times, there is no time that I can't find it if I look for it if you know what I mean. I'm 36yo male and have been stressed for 4 months now. Had all tests believe me. ANA, RF factor, Lymes, CBC, sed rate, on & on. All normal. Very scary. Most can rationalize racing heart, dizziness, sweaty palms, etc. to anxiety (ever give a speech in public?)
But extremely difficult to attribute joint pain to anxiety. Especially if it just doesn't manifest itself while an attack of anxiety, but constant. However, my doctor is absolutely convinced it is indeed anxiety. I have an appointment with a rheumotologist at the end of this month and if he says it is unlikely arthritic in nature, I will have to concede, excluding extra-extra ordinary circumstance, that it is anxiety/stress related. Hang in there. I am going through the exact same thing. Will keep you posted. P.S. Do not try to cyber-diagnose yourself or you will most certainly get worse:-)

Good luck.  I would ask for a copy of your blood test results so you can start a file.  It's always good to keep track of your health history.  And if your doctor's office is like mine it is like pulling teeth to get information from them.  And I would call your doctor's office to tell them that you had the bloodwork done and to please have the doctor call you when the results come back.  I waited and waited and then finally called the office and they said they never rec'd the results.  Ugh!  So I had to wait for them to track them down.  I was sure I had something terrible.  Well, only borderline high cholesterol and no terrible disease!   So don't work yourself up for nothing!

Yes I agree that the internet causes so much unnecessary worry. One part of me is telling me its anxeity, the other half is telling me that I wont live past 20. My doctors appointment/ blood test is tommorow and I am freaking out! i know the closer it gets to that time the more I will be freaking out, especially when Im waiting for results. Who knows if I would even be expierencing any or even half the symptoms I am right now if i hadn't looked them up on the internet. I have a CT scan today to rule out the possibiliy that my allergies and sinuses are causing symptoms. I appreciate the support from you all, I know I would be a much bigger wreck than I am right now if you hadn't responded. Thanks again all!!

Please don't look up on the internet...I do the same and it will make you crazy. I think that is one of our problems we look into the internet and we see something bad and we get anxiety bad enough we have anxiety it makes it worst. Anxiety can make all kinds of symptons   Go to the doctos and I think your mind will be eased.......Good Luck...

It causes it for me.  I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia now b/c of it - interesting.  Anxiety has caused me to have almost any symptom you can THINK OF!  However, this does not give you a free ticket to not get things checked out by a doc.  If your blood tests are okay, then I would stop worrying so much and just let the docs check you out as needed.  Keep a log of your pain/symptoms and make sure the dr. you have listens and doesn't dismiss you as just anxious (god forbid if something was physically wrong).  I have learned not to google my symptoms b/c it just makes me more anxious!  I hate that.  Check out the therapy avenue and see if that helps in the meantime - and perhaps glucosamine chondroiten.  I have read that it is the only proven dietary supplement to lubricate joints and help pain.  Take care:)

Hi.  I am amazed at all the symptoms that anxiety causes us.  So tight muscles from anxiety could be something contributing to your pain.  Or it could be arthritis.  Don't jump to the conclusion of leukemia.  I know where you are coming from though.  A couple of symptoms and some time on the internet and we've got ourselves dead and buried.  It's good that you're seeing your doctor just to rule out anything.  But if you are like me, you'll find that you are worrying for nothing.  Take Care.  Try to de-stress.  Cut out caffeine and sugar.  And go for walks.  That's what helps me.  Report back what your doctor says.
