can clonazepam affect sleep?

by joe504, Feb 08, 2008 02:39AM
i take .5 mg clonazepam b.i.d. for panic disorder.  some nights however, i absolutely cannot sleep, actually to the point that i'll go the whole night through to the next day without a minute of sleep.  i've been on the same dose for the whole 3 months i've been taking it.  please, if anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated.  thanks.

Clonazepam is short acting, perhaps you might ask about Trazadone for sleep from your doctor.

Hi Joe......the above information is incorrect.  Clonazepam/Klonopin is a LONG acting benzo with a 200 hour half life.  I'm sorry, but I don't know why your having sleep issues.  Ryan?

Hey Joe, please try to be understanding of people who are trying to help, but may just be naive about their information. Ok?  Now, instead of reading my post and learning, she may also get her feelings hurt and we really don't want that, do we?

Take care.......

Hi Joe,

I don't think it affects sleep, but I can only go by personal experience.  I've been on Clonazepam for 11 years and it has not affected my sleep at all.  In fact, I have slept pretty good until the last couple of months.  I've developed insomnia where I lay awake most of the night, but I believe it's another underlying issue which I'm trying to get to the bottom of through testing.
