can i use clonazepam to quit benzos for good?

I have been taking .5mg of xanax once daily for about the last year. Same time almost every day around 8pm. I tried to stop once and had a rough couple of days(nervous, twichy, blurred vision). Made it about 6 days and had a major panic attack on the way to the airport. That was back in September. I want off Xanax!!!!  

Can I use Clonazepam  to ease the withdrawal symptoms of the Xanax and then stop? I have heard you can use diazepam(valium) to ease the the symptoms. Will there be further withdrawal from the colnazepam?

Valium and clonazepam are also benzos, so no, you can't just stop them . They're longer acting in the body which is why they're sometimes used to help withdrawal, but they're still benzos and would also need to be tapered off of.

You need to talk to your dr about weaning off xanax. Doing it on your own can be very dangerous. I was given phenobarbital to come off xanax with and it worked wonderfully.

Clonazepam is also a benzo. It would need to be done under the supervision of a doctor. Higher does of Clonazepam with valium until you are clear of the xanax withdrawl (withdrawal) stage and then they lower the Clonazepam and valium dose. Can't say you will wouldn't feel any withdrawls at all. I'm sure there might be some. But not as bad as the xanax withdrawls. Worth discussing with a doctor. Which I am not. So don't take my word on it. Mine is just an opinion.

hey there. just to share, i was on clonazepam .5mg for about a year and it took a year for me to ween myself off of this stuff.  its the real deal, and if you smoke, drink, or even bite your nails you will have a hard time stopping this junk.  ive never taken xanax, or any other benzo, but i wouldn't recommend clonazepam to help stop anything.  i weened off of it without the help of a dr.  by cutting my .5 mg tablets first in half...then in quarters....then i started keeping the big crumbs in my pocket to take.  it took me a loooooong time, but i did it.  ive just recently quit smoking too, after 20 years!  i wish you luck, this aint easy
