clonazepam? alprazolam?

clonazepam? alprazolam?

hey everyone. i saw my doc yesterday and he switched me from lorazepam, to clonazepam. i feel as if the clonazepam kept me alot more calm then the lorazepam. my doctor was also talking about alprazolam, which has a shorter half life than clonazepam. but he said that xanax and klonopin are basically the same but i feel like the half life of the clonazepam is too long. i need these drugs on an as needed basis and i dont want to feel messed up for longer than i have too. so i myself feel as if alprazolam would be a better choice for me. i need to take these meds at most twice a day, but sometimes not at all. at LEAST every other day. i have agoraphobia as well as anxiety and panic attacks. but sometimes i can control it, because of therapy and some books. im just wondering if alprazolam IS in fact pretty much the same as clonazepam mg for mg. ive heard different things from different people. sometimes clonazepam is stronger for someone, and sometimes alprazolam is stronger for someone. i guess it all depends. if i am on clonazepam could i use alprazolam on an as needed basis? or should i just stick to clonazepam? (sorry this is so long). and again, if i were to take 1mg of clonazepam, how many mg of alprazolam would that replicate? thanks you guys. every little bit helps.

I feel once you find something that works, stay with it so long as there are no bad side effects.  You're correct in that we all react differently to the different drugs, so what works well for one may not for you and vice versa. Alprazolam is actually Xanax.  I'm sure someone more knowlegeable will jump on here with some good advice.  Take care.

Go back and read the posts and many PMs you have already written and received answers to regarding these issues. Repeatedly asking them will not change our advice.
As was also advised, see your doctor as we cannot tell you what meds to take. And the therapy you've been encouraged to seek out..............have you done anything about that?
You must become pro-active in your own health and mental care. Until YOU decide to take action, all we are doing is enabling you to stay in the same place.

thanks there boss. i realise all that, but it doesnt hurt to ask questions. im slower than some people. so asking questions over and over is something that i sometimes cant help. thanks for being that way about it tho. do me a favour, let other people answer my posts. i dont wanna hear from you, if your just gonna be like that. cause i dont need to hear it and ya, ive been in therapy, reading books, ect... im LEARNING to control it, and people with answers like yours dont help.

I have taken clonazepam, alprazolam, and diazepam at one time or another during my mental health treatment. The only difference I see between clonazepam & alprazolam is that I had a lot of memory issues with clonazepam. Sometimes I couldn't recall some of the previous day events. I didn't have that trouble with the other two. And I wasn't taking a high dose, just normal...maybe 1mg 2-3 times a day best I can remember. But I agree with "mammo", to each his own, stick with whatever you feel helps more and weigh out the benefits against the side effects. Good luck!
