Anxiety frequently comes in 'waves' during the course of the day, or occurs during certain hours of the day.  Sometimes we have what's called a 'rebound effect' where medication wears off and anxiety returns a bit heavier then we're used to.  It becomes difficult to tell what's withdrawal, a rebound, or return of symptoms of anxiety.  Were you usually anxious at this time of night in the past before starting medication?  What about breaking down that dosage to .25 in the morning and .25 in the evening around the time you are having the anxiety and see if that helps you thru this.  Take care.

I take clonazapam and agree with MMahon.  Believe when weaning down or off, would be good to separate doses.

My doctor has prescribed it both ways.  But generally, it is recommended to take in divided doses, keeping anxiety at bay with steady amount going into system.

To the point: I have experienced exactly what you describe: an upsurge of anxiety (trembling inside like I drank 10 cups of coffee:)) at night, generally when I go to bed.  I would have taken total of 1 mg that day.....but for whatever reason, get that surge.

My anxiety has generally been worse upon waking.  If I don't take 1/2 tab or if I do...it generally goes away in a couple of hours.

I think I've read that 1/4 mg is easiest, safest amount to try for weaning off.  It is suggested to stay at one reduction for a couple of weeks.

Others will weigh in on this...I'm sure not a medical expert:).    Best of luck.
