complex ptsd

Please ...wich medications or treatment work? My husband suffers Complex PTSD-( Xmilitary) and every time he has a crisis and he is admitted his medications are changed and once he is discharged from the VA then  we have to deal with the worst side effects. More anger,frustration and never the less the roller coster starts all over again. I'm desperate. Can anybody help? The last medication he was placed is seroquel and his memory and thought process is imparied. I feel like I'm living with a stranger. Marie824

Marie you should write to White House in Washington DC for serious help...No joke! Reach out for public support/exposure, TV media, write to Oprah, Dr. Phill for help. Please get as much public exposure as possible, my dear. The VA does help, but please extend and reach out for more!  Don't be silent, reach to alternative and higher sources.You and your husband need deep therapy: Medication combined with long term professional counseling is important for both of you. It is hard for you indeed...What he went through it's not his fault, he can't bare the trauma from the war. The flash-back memories are slow killers, unless expert help is retained.
I saw a report not long ago about how a returning soldier with severe damages; physical and psychological (PTSD) got a German Shepard dog trained to calm and disperse the fears and the flash-backs... Get him a trained dog, to help him. Other soldiers with PTSD benefit from having a companion trained dog. Search in this direction, don't give up. You as a his wife need also training/counseling to deal with your husband Complex PTSD. He went through hell we can't see, and his mind needs to recover from the deep trauma...Slow process, takes time... I'm not a doctor, but I had PTSD in the past from a catastrophic earth quick in my city in Romania were I saw dismembered dead bodies, heads, arms, organs. The memories were embedded trough my brain and all my 6 senses send alarm responses to trigger stimuli which normally shouldn't bothered a regular person. I was a mess!!! The simple sound of a heavy car passing a block away would send me in panic attacks, the smell of raw meat in the store's meat department would make me sick. I could not see meat without having flash backs of human flesh. I could not ride the subways for years because the  noise would mimic the underground rumbles of the catastrophic earth quick... Words could not explain, my senses were hypersensitive and I was ready to jump, irritable and panicky. Over the years I learned to transfer and refocus my abnormal impulses/reactions...I still deal with it after 31 years...
Trust me: medication is not the only solution he needs. His deep affective and emotional state needs serious mending. He was exposed to raw human vulnerability and he needs unconditional reassurance of a different form. Get him a trained dog.  Let me know if you need other help.
