considering a child, looking for safe alternative

My wife and I want to have a baby but she is taking clonazepam twice a day: .25 mg in the morning and .5mg at night for anxiety. Does anyone know of a safe alternative; as many studies show that taking this drug is bad on the fetus and there are potential birth defects posed towards the baby?

First of all, congratulations on wanting to extend your family and taking the initative to do it safely.  I believe the first thing you should do is go talk to your GP doctor or your OB/GYN for the advice of what to take and not to take.  That is what they are there for and they are the professionals.  With something this important, I believe that their advice would probably the best...keep us posted!

CJ29 is right, speak to your GP. If they cannot help then they can put you in touch with a specialist that can. After I gave birth I experienced extreme anxiety. I am now under a specialist unit who deal with mothers that have had adverse reactions mentally to giving birth. They have told me that if I ever want to have another child then I need to get in touch with them before I start trying  to conceive as they are going to put me on drugs straight away so that it doesn't happen again to me. So there most definitely are drugs out there that are safe during pregnancy.
