depakote and lorazepam

I just started taking divalproex sod ER 500(depakote) yesterday and I need to know if it's okay to take my lorazepam 1mg because I am having huge panic attacks all morning and I'm terrified. I got 2-3 hours of sleep last night and i need to take care of my 9 month old baby. :(

Whoever wrote you the script for the depakote should have known about other meds you're taking and adivised you, at that time, if you should  continue with the lorazepam. For this doctor, I give him an F.
Call your doctor and get an answer.
Because I'm sure you're not the hothead I am, you'll probably be very nice when they tell you everyone is much too busy to talk to you and someone will call you back which of course they won't.
Me? I'd tell whoever answered the phone that I needed an answer to a pharmaceutical question IMMEDIATELY! Tell them you are having medical problems because you don't know if you can mix these particular meds. If she asks for your phone number or your date of birth, (to look up your file) she is getting ready to tell you someone will call you back. Don't let that happen. Tell her you are home alone with your baby, that you are very, very frightened and need an answer NOW! Do not hang up that phone until you have either the doctor or his RN or PA on the line with you! We all know doctors are busy people......yada, yadda, yadda..........YOU'RE busy too and your having horrible panic attacks and you've got a baby to take care and you have your doctor to thank for that. I don't know how long you've been on the Ativan, but you must not abruptly stop taking it after long term use, as in, >4 months. I believe this is why you are having the horrible panic attacks.
If you can't get any help from your doctor, call your pharmacist, tell him what's going on and follow his/her advice. If there is no contraindication for taking depakote and lorazepam, they may tell you to go ahead and take your normal dose of lorazepam but to contact your doctor ASAP.
Make some calls and you'll soon be back in control.......you'll be fine.
And either find a new doctor or let this one know that when it comes to medications, anytime they add something or change something......whatever, you want to go over EVERYTHING you take, you want to know if you should stop anything, you want to know exactly where you're at with your meds BEFORE you leave that office.
Best of luck
