It is an odd think. No miracle cure for it. I used to get it badly years ago. To the point were I once went to the shops with my mum, came home, whilst is that state, went to my room, came back down and asked my mum when where we going to the shops. Wasn't aware of the time we were out at all. Just does whacky things to you. I almost got knocked down because of it another time. Saw the car as been much further away. So walked across the road. The car was so much closer. It can make things seem that bit distant. Bit like been on the verge of passing out, but you don't pass out. Were noises go all strange, lights become a nightmare. Like you have taken a few steps back from reality. Used to describe it as if my life was going at 1mph and everybody else's was at 100mph. It just stopped over time. But it can be frightening at the time. At times it is like you have to pinch yourself to bring yourself back to reality. Maybe distraction would work. MP3 player when out. Keep the mind focused. From what I can recall it hit me during the worst times of my panic attacks. That period of my life. Not something I suffer from today. Not had a bout of it in years.

Hey
im going through this right now..and Ive realized what I think is causing this..basically its being stuck in a depression/anxiety mode for so long that the REAL world seems odd to you, because you do not feel like yourself and you are clearly not when you are in anxiety/depression mode, your anxiety detects that something is not right, so u are constantly looking around trying to figure out what the hell is going on, I feel like this when I ll get deep into thought and I kinda freeze and my pupils are dialated and I kinda panic because my sorroundings seems pretty bizzare! because Ive been so disconnected from the world itself! Anxiety/depression take you to another world you see, a world of our own, but  remember the outside world doesnt change, Its whats going on in our minds... its nothing to get alarmed about, jus concentrate or Try to concentrate on reality or focus on something specific that will take you mind off it, dont worry you be fine, dont get alarmed....btw there are most postings on the depression forum under depersonalization

Make sure you mention it to the doctor.  I used to call it a "nightmare state" since it felt like I was moving through a very vivid dream.  It is part of anxiety, but it can get better.
