I've had both done .. A CT is normally done first to rule out tumors or an aneurysm. Then the MRI is normally about to give more detailed info. However depending on the reasons A ct can help with surgery and other things

I've had both done and the only real difference is, MRI takes more images of particular area then CT scan.
If CT scan is normal, then it's up to the doctor to order an MRI for deeper testing, normally an MRI is ordered if something suspcious is found on CT scan, so doctor can further investigate/diagnose.
i have been wondering the same exact thing. I got a ct scan and it came out normal but i still get really drowsy during the day time. If the ct scan is normal is there a need for the mri. Please somebody answer us i really want to know as well.
