dizziness from anxiety?

by stressdout75, Nov 08, 2009 09:11PM
So, I have been diagnosed with panic disorder and am working on treating the panic attacks with cognitive behavioral therapy. My questiosn has to do with feeling dizzy/lightheaded.  I feel this way most of the day, each day.  Its not like a panic attack which is much more severe and has a lot more symptoms.  I just feel dizzy and lightheaded most of the time and the severity comes in waves and literally hits me live a wave of lightheadedness.  It is strange because it last for hours and doesn't really seem to have anything to do with me having panic attacks.  The therapist says this is just anxiety but I just don't understand why I am feeling dizzy and sick when I am not feeling particularly anxious or anything.  Is there an explanation for this and why anxiety would cause this feeling all day every day.  I think if I understood it, maybe I could get past it or something.  Maybe someone else has had this and figured out how to stop it.  The one thing that does stop it most of the time is if I take a pill (lorazepam) however this makes me tired and I don't want to take them every day as I have been. Thanks.

Hello there,

I'll try to make it short since it can be a long subject.

Anxiety can manifest itself into you conscious mind and subconscious mind. When you are not feeling anxious or anything, there's something in your subconscious mind that makes you anxious and this i why you must find the root cause to eliminate the problem at 100%.

Lightheaded and dizzy feeling is common is anxiety sufferers and can be 24/7.

One thing i suggest to everyone tho is physical activity and healthy diet. Our body was designed to move and eat bio. While doing physical acitivty your body produces at least 8 hormnes that are essential for healthy mind-body. Endorphins are one kind of hormones that releive tension and stress and therefore anxiety. Try do some research about hormones produces during physical activity or send me a private message and i will be glad to teach you about it.

Best regards,
M4

Hello,

Am i glad to find you! i have the exact same symptoms, i have anxiety and panic attacks and am taking 5mg of lexapro a day ( which i hate ) but everyday i am dizzy or lightheaded and i honestly like what M4 had to say because it makes perfect sense, there are days when stress of life is unbearable but then there are also days when everything seems great and i will still get a dizzy spell? but it is true that our minds are constantley going, even in our sleep we are some what still thinking, my doc says the same thing that its all symptoms of anxiety... All i can say from someone who goes through this too is try to relax your mind, i dont know about you but i am constantly thinking, whether it be good or bad. Anxiety ***** and panic attacks are the worst, but deep breathing excersizes do help... If u ever feel alone just write me since we go through the same thing :-)

Thanks for the input.  As for being active, I try to exercise a little every day.  I usually go on a 3-5 mile run at least 4 days a week and now I find that I even feel disoriented/dizzy while on a run.  It used to be that that was the one way to escape the weird feeling but it seems to have invaded during that time as well.  I am still going to run because I know its good for me but its really discouraging.  Is there any specific diet that might help me or foods to avoid?  I just want to dizziniess/lightheadedness to stop. Thanks!!

Yes of course you can work on your diet and i can help you to do so.

Eat: Various kinds of fruit ( stawberry&wild berries, cheery, cranberry ), greens, root vegetables, sweet potatoes instead of patatoes, salads, fish ( wild salmon etc but you are better with smaller fish since they contain smaller amount of mercury ), peas, beans, lentils, brown rice, porridge, small amount of olive oil and low fat dairy products ( try replacing milk by soy milk tho ), grape tomatoes, broccoli, try filtering your water, use olive oil, algas ( nori, kombu, wakame, arame ), decaffeined green tea ( especially those from japan like sencha, gyokuro, matcha ) nuts and peanuts, bio eggs, bio meat, cranberry juice, vegetable juice everyday, Keyword is BIO. Look for a healthy food indicator when buying food.

Avoid Junk food like food which contains sugar or too much saturated fat, soft drinks, alcohol, most sausages, chips, sweets, cakes, buns and white bread. They have not enough nutrients for the intake of junk they give you.

I hope that will help you, the human body was designed to move and eat bio and we are made from the same 22 minerals we find on earth ( iron in our blood, calcium in our bones etc ). Keep that in mind!
