Until I quit smoking January 08, I smoked about 3-1/2 packs a day.  I used the patches to quit.  I've read that the mentally ill do tend to be more likely to smoke.

They say that smoking can cause anxiety problems, especially when started at a adolescent

Well that makes perfect sense, though I'd never thought about it.  Cigarette's speed up heart rate, change breathing patterns and constrict blood vessels among other things.

They also control the receptors of the Chemical Dopamine, which is responsible for the "feel good relax" feeling,
Usually when a person takes a SSRI or whatever, it also effects the dopamines too.
Go figure, ot only do they kill you physically, but they kill you mentally too, lol
Why must something that feels so right, be so wrong?
lol, I need to quit...seriously

I quit smoking a few months ago. Before that, I had been smoking on and off for the past 10 years (since I was 18.) Never more than 10-12 ciggs a day.

I smoked most of my teenage years. Began trying to quit in my late 20's and  was finally able to quit 4 years ago. I just got sick of being scared of the health consequences. I also got tired of stinking of smoke and burning holes from falling ashes. I've tried various methods-hypnosis didn't work at all, the gum...hell, I used to recharge the gum by smoking white chewing it. The original patch, Nicotrol helpled TREMENDOUSLY.Oddly enough when I relapsed and tried Nicoderm CQ, that patch did NOTHING for me...Nicotrol is the only one that worked.

Its funny when you say that about the Nicotrol, and the Nicoderm.
I quit once before also with Nicotrol, then relapsed 6 mths later, then I tried the CQ and its seems like a crave much more.
Thats what Im using now...and its almost like Im not wearing a patch.
yeah, I smoke a few cigs right now while wearing it....but atleast im cutting down the smoke...lol
