I've been on lamictal 300 mg RX and Seroquel 100 mg for about eight weeks and it doesn't seem to be working. I've gone inpatient, seen a psychiatrist regularly, but I just don't feel like this bipolar 1 (extreme depression and no mania) (or clinical depression) will lift and I'm hopeless. I'm working out each day and attending AA meetings since I've been in recovery for almost 5 months. I've lost all hope and am open with family and doctors about this, but no one seems to have an answer. I've thought about going away for a month or so to a clinic, but hate to leave my three young children. Also have thought about ECT. My psychiatrist seems to think I should go away, but I want to know if there's anything anyone can share that may help.
8 weeks is likely long enough to trial a med that isn't working, so did your psychiatrist suggest switching to something else? Don't stop without consulting him btw.
It is not surprising that you haven't been able to get help from your family, as they may have no experience in the area and even if they do it is best to keep seeing a professional as you are doing. I don't know much about BP1, but did notice this comment in an article, so try to keep hope as relief may occur. "Depressive symptoms of bipolar disorder can last weeks or months, but rarely longer than one year."
Have you tried doing everything your psychiatrist has recommended?
