I have been on it for 8 years.  It helps me sleep.  I hope to never go off of it.  It's a great AD also.  My Mom has also been on it for years.  I always take it about 30 mins. before going to bed and I go right to sleep and don't feel groggy the next morning.  At first for about a week it will make you groggy in the morning but it goes away.  Hope you have good luck with it like I have.  Take care.

Yes, Elavil is a Tricyclic antidepressant that is indicated for long-term therapy. It is superior to the SSRI's in almost every respect.

Another good option is Sinequan, which is milder. Elavil is more specific for depression, and Sinequan is useful for both depression and anxiety.
