I have been giving recovery my all and thought i would share something that might be common knowledge for some but for me it is new. I am learning that the mind is a tool of the soul, like my eyes and liver, etc. People with anxiety tend to give the mind the drivers seat and let it bounce around until we can find something to grab on to. Our mind is like the center of a bicycle wheel with the thoughts being all the spokes. of the zillions of thoughts on those spokes we tend to grab on to those that scare us. I am following a cog program with what i am finding on my own and have concluded that I catastrophize and am starting to get that I can't think the sky pink (my reminder when i start creating movies of things that haven't happened) That my mind does not have to be the driver. I can choose where to focus my attention, who knew??? I never understood that was a choice before. To not fight the junk thoughts let them be but focus on the now. I have done things in the past few days I haven't done in a verrryyy long time, i was basically agorophobic and those things i did do i white knuckled thru. Those first steps about defeated me but if I arrive and wait and focus my awareness on what is so, I can actually enjoy things that have been white knuckle experiences. Its been a long long long road so thought i'd share something that is actually helping me.
