If anything, I would try to seek out another doctor -OR- talk to the doctor you've already been dealing with for so long and just inform them of the fact that you'd like to wean off of the Xanax carefully so that you don't go through anything horrible such as WD from cutting the medications out CT from your life. These drugs can be very hurtful if stopped CT without the assistance of a doctor.
I would have to agree with the above posters. You were on it for an extended period of time and quitting benzos cold turkey is not a good idea. Is there another doctor you can talk to at the practice you go to?
Yes please seek another doctor asap and make a complaint about yours. It is not safe to stop cold turkey like that especially after a couple of years. Good luck I hope you can see someone asap
Switch doctors....If you're taking 3 pills a day for a few years, and your doc refuses to give you a new script, he obviously doesn't know enough benzos to be writing scripts for them...
You don't mention the dosage but regardless, even a moderate amount of a benzo drug daily should not be stopped cold turkey. It should be done gradually sometimes by switching to a longer acting benzo. Why don't you mention this to your doctor. Also note some doctors become very concerned that authorities might take a look at their practice overly prescribing these kinds of drugs on a long term basis. They then decide to show they stopped and did not allow their patients to be on them permanently.
