fear of unknown disease

Hello,

I'm posting this question hoping that someone of the health care comunity may be able to answer it.

I'm a 25-years-old male and about five YEARS AGO I had an episode of unprotected sex with another male.

After that, I made several tests and it's all right with my health. The other person is nowadays healthy too.

What bothers me is: IF THERE WAS A NEW EPIDEMIC, A DISEASE BEING SPREAD, LIKE AIDS, IS FIVE YEARS TIME ENOUGH FOR US TO KNOW THAT?

I try to range information reading the HIV history (people died of "unkown ailments" many years before, so I'd say that nowadays doctors could at least say 'there is something we don't know what it is causing diseases').

Now we have antibodies exams, so a new disease could develop unespecific and specific antibodies, is that correct? Or nobody could see this?

Considering also 5 years, I believe the previus partners of my partner would already developed symptoms. Or even other people, or even the first hosts of the disease. Or even people with multiple partner and imunodepressed.

I really want to move on and be happy with a girl. I've behaved properly over the last years, but I just can't get rid of this phantom, I have problems with OCD, paranoia and depression, so I'd ask you please to help me to solve this out.

Thank you so much for your kindness,

Strat.

Health anxiety can really be a pain in the you know what.  If you have been cleared medically, then chances are OVERWHELMINGLY stacked in your favor that you are okay.  But all too often that 'what if' thinking pops into our heads.  Of course there is always a what if, but we also take a risk by walking down the street, driving our cars, etc.  Have you ever thought of talking to a therapist about this?  Health anxiety is quite common in this forum and can really take a toll on us unless we get to the bottom of it.  Keep us posted!
