flushing

Hey

I seem to have flushes with my health anxiety (hightened illness concern) as i like to call it. Was wondering if anybody gets hot flushes in their face and other parts of their body including legs, abdoman for no apparent reason, and whether anybody knew the cause of this.

I've spoken to you before about our "heightened illness concerns" :-)  From what I have gathered during my many hours of googling the how's and why's of anxiety is that adrenaline and other chemicals are wreaking havoc on our systems creating all of the symptoms we are feeling because of our anxiety disorders.  I have learned that when we think of something that scares us or are in an uncomfortable situation, our blood pressure rises because of the dump of adrenaline we are experiencing.  My people in the throws of a panic attack have had unbelieveable blood pressure reading (like 180/100 or something), but their reading returned to normal after the panic attack subsided.  So I researched the signs and symptoms of high blood pressure and flushing is a major indicator.  But anxiety sufferers have transient high blood pressure readings due to the fluctuating chemicals coursing through our bodies.  I would attribute the flushing we experience to the temporary rise in blood pressure brought on by another unnecessary dump of adrenaline into our already "toxic" blood supply.  I am inserting a link to the web page I found most informative about anxiety and adrenaline.  It gave me a whole new outlook on what we are experiencing.  I would also recommend reading up on the amygdala and anxiety because the amygdala controls the rate at which our bodies produce the excess adrenaline and other chemicals.  I hope this information is of comfort to you as it was for me, and I hope you felt better today!

man I think you hit the nail on the head. I have been to several specialist md'sthis year and they say nothing is wrong. Maybe hypothyroidism, which does seem to cause some of my symptoms. The last doc i saw prescribes a beta blocker because he said that adrenalin was causing my chest pains. I didnt take it because I saw a list of the possible side effects. One of them was that it could cause Lupus!! hahah I dont know about that. Maybe I should try it as I cant seem to lick this chest tightness. Ekg's were normal. I'm sick of all this. Any ideas?

I take a beta blocker called Inderal and it does work for blushing, fast heart beat, shaky hands, and sweating.  I love inderal.  I feel so much better now.  I take it along with Klonopin, WellbutrinSR, and Elavil.  These medications have saved my life.  I couldn't go out in public do to my face turning bright red, sweating and most of all my hands would shake so bad if I had to sign for my credit card I could barly write.  I was shaking and blushing so bad one day the cashier (a young boy) asked me if I was on drugs.  I almost started to cry.  I paid and left in a hurry.  Now I feel almost normal.  Good luck to all of you.  Take care.....
