from Paxil to Wellbutrin

I was on Paxil for almost fifteen years but switched to Wellbutrin SR 150 mg 1x daily two weeks ago. I have experienced every side effect in the book so far--nausea, dizziness, and severe muscle pain. I have not noticed any benefits yet to this medication. My mood is flat other than wanting to burst into tears, and I am ANGRY. When will (and do?) the side effects fade? When does the Wellbutrin start to boost mood? I have had a return of sexual function, for which I am grateful. However, I would like to have a REAL life and a sex life.

I was on Paxil also for many years and I switched and went on Wellbutrin XL 150mg.  Let me tell you I think the depression was lifted but the side effects were not something I could live with.  I also burst into tears and was hostile and very irritable at times and had lots of anxiety!  That didn't go away so now I am weaning off.  I did try to go up to 300mg and that made the side effects even worse.  Everyone is different though so I can only speak for myself.  I also didn't lose the weight I wanted to and so I am now going to try another SSRI because I have GAD and wellbutrin was the wrong choice for me.  Good luck w/ finding the right med, its not easy! Switching from a particular medication to another can definitely have some unwanted side effects in my experience, but for me, they tended to go away with time.  You were on Paxil for a long time; did your doctor slowly taper you off and switch you to Wellbutrin?  Have you discussed this with him/her?
