heart palps WHAT IS GOING ON!!!!!!

ok i have had anxiety for a very long time and i cant even remember the last time i had those horrible heart palpitations. reason being because i have managed to get a hold of my anxiety or so i thought.
For the last few days it has been a nightmare for me i can literally put my hand on my throat and feel my hearts rythm and the palps interupting the rythym.
Tonight i was terrified it just would'nt stop i'm some what calming down now but can still feel the palps and have'nt even really been having anxiety issues lately the only thing thats going on with me is that i am trying to quit smoking and have'nt had a cig for about a week but i always quit smoking and sometimes longer than a week and it has never made any effect on me or my body (withdrawls).
One other interesting thing i found out is that when a woman gets her tubes tied it can be very hard to deal with i had mine tied 2 1/2yrs ago and now that i look back on these last two and a half years it has been very hard for me.
One other thing i have noticed when it's that time of the month for me (sorry guys) everything is just 10xs worse i can't sleep, i feel nausious, i get those things at night where i wake up out of my sleep feeling like i'm having a stroke or something.
I don't know it's driving me crazy my boss at work is a E.M.T. he told me that i should have my thyroid checked and that it is true about woman getting there tubes tied one of my friends got her tubes tied at 19yrs of age and she told me she has been in and out of mental health since and on meds since she is now in her mid 40's.
Im starting to lose what little bit of control i had of my anxiety i really have made it to where i could live with it but now it's scareing the hell out of me i think i'm gonna go to the doctors and atleast get a c.b.c. done chemical inbalance can really make your life a nightmare so i've heard has anyone ever experienced any kind of inbalance or thyroid issues please let me know.
I feel kind of afraid to go to the doctors because i have done so well with all my hypochondriatic diseases and aches and pains and chest pains. But now i feel this could be something seriouse but i will say this the heart palps have stopped while i was typeing this up wich makes me believe that it was only anxiety but for some reason i really have'nt been feeling good lately                                 thanx

well thank you guys very much for the kind words and your help i did go to the doctor today and he said exactly what i thought he was gonna say ANXIETY but he did however take blood for the cbc and thyroid and diabetes all of that.
I will know about all those test by thursday he also prescribed me paxil 10mg i have never in my life took any medication but i just might give it a try this time if i can just get over my fears of taking meds
Anyways if you guys know anything about paxil please let me know so far i've heard only good things about it from a friend of mine but i know this forum has alot of wisdom on the meds they prescribe us for anxiety.
the doc said if the paxil did'nt work well for me he would add klonipin to it but preffered not to would like to see things work out with the paxil alone
And last but not least the therapist will be calling me to start my therapy :)  i hope all this makes my life easier he also said alot of this could be nicotine withdrawl but i've never had this before when i quit smoking and beleive me this aint my first rodeo hahaha thanx guys

Sorry to hear that you've been having such a tough run lately!  JSGeare got right to the "heart" of the matter and while his advice is spot on in that the root of our anxiety and it's resulting "symptoms" all stem from unresolved issues in our minds that need to be addressed, I would like to offer you some comfort regarding the "heart anxiety".  This is an issue I am all too familiar with.

I developed anxiety 8 years ago, and the resulting heart symptoms sent me spiralling out of control on a health anxiety rollercoaster.  Something would bother me, I would get anxious, feel heart symptoms, begin to worry about my heart, experience more symptoms, which led to MORE worry and MORE symptoms.  I got stuck in this cycle many times over the passed 8 years.  I would encourage you to get the CBC for no other reason that your peace of mind.  I too worried it was my thyroid, and was unable to let the worry go until I had the blood work done to rule it out.

You say that you had gained control over your anxiety, which resulted in few if any palps for quite some time, and I am sure that you can pull yourself out of this cycle again.  Please remind yourself about the nature of heart problems (which is what I always did as a "first step")... Heart problems don't "come and go" as do heart symptoms from anxiety, and if you truly had something wrong with your heart you would know it by now.  Whenever you feel those palps (I even get "runs" of them) intead of thinking "OH MY GOD IT"S HAPPENING AGAIN!!!", think calmly to yourself, "There's another one, what a pain in the A$$".  Getting mad at them is what has helped me overcome them, because when I was responding to them with fear, I only experienced MORE palps, but by getting angry at them I conditioned myself to respond to them differently on the emotional level.  You want to run from what you fear, but you tend to confront or dismiss something that is annoying to you.

Please go into my profile and read my posts regarding heart palps.  There you will find the full story of my heart anxiety battle, and many other palp sufferers as well because I try to help everyone I can that experiences this particular symptom.  I have recently experienced two whole weeks without a single palp and I was having hundreds per day not to long ago!  Please keep in mind that not only emotional issues can trigger anxiety symptoms.  Being sick, or not getting enough rest can cause me to experience heightened anxiety symptoms, and others have reported the same experiences.  I even had a full blown panic attack "out of the blue" because I was "anxiously awaiting" a fun filled vacation with my family!  How crazy is that :-P  !

I also want to congratulate you on your efforts to quit smoking!  It seems like I try to quit every day (the desire is always there) but I have never made it trough a full day with out a smoke, so KUDOS to you!  Keep trying, I know you can beat it!  I did find a web page a few months ago that listed anxiety as a withdrawl symptom, so that could very well be the culprit behind this current episode of anixety your are experiencing.  Please remind yourself that you gained control of it before, and will do it again, just don't let it "spiral" into heart anxiety this time :-)

Hope this helps you, and good luck kicking the butts!

I'll give you a little face-slap here -and you take it from there. Control seems to be the keyword when it comes to you and anxiety. For you and for many, people think in terms of holding it down, holding it back, controlling it, even fighting it.

And that's about as successful as "controlling" a petulant child at an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant. Might work for a while. Fact is, the energy expended to control the anxiety creates more tension which can ADD to the anxiety (or the stress that produces the anxiety).

I hold out to you that a course of therapy -and perhaps some meds to ease the way a bit- will help you learn about what's bugging you. And when you know more about that, you can "let go" of the anxiety. A passive sort of thing -"let go." And of course, the therapy option might be just part of an over-all work-up medically to rule out the "could it be" kind of concerns -or rule them IN, as the case may be.

If you read my journals you'll find plenty of material about this; why not sample a few of my collected works of cosmic wisdom and see if any of your bells get rung?

Stay with us -this forum is one SURE way to start getting a grip and feeling better.
