The Xanax works beautifully. Like you I only took half a pill (half of .25 mg) which was usually sufficient. If that didn't work, I took the other half. Because of the addiction question I never used it if I didn't need it. But Xanax only takes care of the symptom. The cause in my case was adrenal fatigue brought about by the use of Advair for COPD. I stopped using that poison and am on natural supplements as a substitute. Interestingly, they work better. The adrenal fatigue, which I was treated for, seems to be fading away. I rarely use Xanax now.
I take half a xanax when they get really bad but I try not to take them. I may try going to the dr.
Have your adrenal function tested (saliva and urine tests). I was suffering from adrenal fatigue, which showed itself in exhaustion, anxiety, and panic attacts. Since being treated I am recovering quickly. In the beginning, at the very first sign of anxiety I took a very tiny dose of Xanax (half of a .25mg pill). If that did not abort it I took the other half. It worked beautifully. You have to be careful with Xanax because it is highly addictive, so taking it routinely is a bad idea. I only used it when I needed it.
I have had it since I was 10 years old. it runs in our family. I have been panic attack free for nearly 5 years then I left my job and had to move out of where i was staying for 2 years to live with my new boyfriend. I just started having them about a month ago. not sure why. I have done councling, didn't work, tried meds...hate the thought of getting deppendant on that stuff just to deal with attacks. I was a dancer so I worked alot, I also drank alot when I worked then stopped and started drinking redbull which i have stopped drinking about a month ago aswell.
Have you had anxiety in the past? Are you currently seeking counseling for your anxiety. You are definitely right that benzos and alcohol don't mix. Whenever I drink, my heart rate goes up (especially if I have had one too many). Can you sit down and relax or try some breathing exercises?
Long term, I would seek counseling...for me it was the best move I made. Gaining the knowledge about why you think the way you do can be VERY beneficial in my experience...keep us posted!
