help getting off ativan

hello, my name is matt, and i have been on ativan for about 6-7months and for 6months i was taking two 2mg tablets twice a day. about a month ago, my script ran out and i became HORIBBLY SICK the very day of. talked to my doctor and he dropped it down to 1mg a day and said i should be off in a month. that doesnt sound right to me, i know my stuff pretty well and you CANNOT suddenly stop talking benzodiazepines. i go see him on monday, two days. anything i should say?? i want to be off of these things ASAP because i will be starting college soon and i dont need to worry about these serious withdrawal symptoms. Also, i am a recovering, Non IV, heroin/pain pill addict but i have almost over two yrs clean. please help this is very important to me, especially considering this is one of the two major drugs abused that can cause death with withdrawl, the other being alcohol which i do not drink.. the ativan dependence was almost accidental. any insight from someone with the knowledge to answer or a PHARMACIST or an M.D. would be GREAT!
Thank you all,
       _Matt_

I am currently taking .5 mg once/day lorazepam (originally prescribed Aug 9, 2010). Am doing pretty good. I have made a w/d plan w/Dr. Take .5 mg for a month then discontinue.

Good luck & keep us posted on your w/d,
NKTB
