SSRIs usually take 4-6 weeks to start working. Ativan will make you sleepy, but it might not do anything for a panic attack. You'll have to wait a while for the prozac to kick in.

Hey Toots,
I've been out of the loop for a bit due to a bug, and am a little confused about what is going on with you. I read a post from you a little further down about being in a hospital, (?) a re-hap? You were wondering if they could keep you there. The answer you got to that qustion was correct. They cannot keep you there UNLESS they feel you are a danger to yourself or others.
But what you ask in THIS post I can address to a small degree. Your doc said he was giving you some Prozac to get through the week-end. I can't understand this at all since it takes anywhere from 1-4 WEEKS for Prozac to reach a therapeutic level in your system, so the week-end thing is rather bogus to my way of thinking. UNLESS he discussed putting you on this med for the long haul and thought this would be a good time to begin the therapy with that. Prozac is for the depression. There is no quick fix for depression. You said he also gave you Ativan. This med is for anxiety. It is very fast acting and you should be feeling some relief from your anxiety state by now, even if he started you on the lowest dose.
I am going to presume that you will be seeing him after the week-end? I can only suggest that you hang in as best you can and discuss this with him when you have your consult.
I just get the feeling that you two aren't on the same page and for any of this to work, you absolutely MUST be.
I wish you well and let us know what your next step is. We'll there with you.
Peace
