i need ur help...:(

i'm 23 and  ab 4 months ago i've been told by my doc that i have major anxiety and depresion..so he decided to put me on lexapro 10 mg....i've been on it for about 4 months now but it feels like it's not working the same(forgot to mantion that i interupted the treatment for ab a week and than started it again since all my symptoms were comin g back)....at the beginning i did go to see my doc. due to rapid heart bit and some panic attacks, however depresion was never on my mind,... before i took lexapro my life was hell:  i couldn't be alone for one second cause i would freak out, when driving the car i had to stay on the phone with my husbund, i was constantly telling myself that i had every illness "in the book", especially heart problems etc...after taking laxapro all these seemed to go away but now after stopping taking it and restarting again i 'm getting the repid heart bit again  (mostly in the evening)and i'm scared i may have a heart problem (i keep asking myself how did my doc know i had anxiety and not a heart problem without doing any tests? could he be wrong?), i also have the tingelling sensation in my face arms and legs, and the sensation that sometimes my heart is bitting so fast that it's ab to come out and sometimes it's not bitting at all(i know  this sounds creazy but sometimes i actually count my heart bits ), othertimes there is diconfort in my chest...so i  was wondering if this is really just anxiety or something more?and if it is anxiety can somebody please recomend a good medication......i look forward to any answers

I believe "ab" in her post meant "about", not abortion.

Hang in there...you've sought treatment before with success....so you know it is possible.  Get yourself back to your doctor (p-doc if poss) and stick with the treatment plan.  If you are on a certain med, don't stop taking it just b/c you feel better.  Those types of meds need to be tapered, and if a medication regimen is helping you...I don't see the rush to d/c it?

You are not alone, things will get better for you!

Hi, sweetie, This is all anxiety and ocd, Give the lexapro a chance to work aagain if in 2 mths it dosent tell your doc you want to try someting else .  I had in my twenties everything you have,  I quess ab stands for abortion.  I had mine for exact same reasons.  Yours is the first post I have ever read , that was so much like mine. you have helped me, and I know you will get better. you are so lucky to be young and diagnosed and have meds available.     hugs  chelley_1

After reading your post, I must say that your anxiety is back.  I know it's not exactly pleasant to hear you have anxiety but it's better than the million other things you are thinking could be wrong with you.  I too am on Lexapro and have been on and off for years.  When taken every day I have found that it helps quite a bit and just when I think I have a hold on my anxiety and quit Lexapro...SURPRISE!  I start Lexapro once again but it seems to take forever to take hold again.  I'm on 20mg and nothing...nada...it's like the medication will not get into my system again which makes the anxiety worse because I'm looking for a quick fix.  I just wonder if maybe this is what you are experiencing also.

Sorry, I didn't meant to offend.  And I am a devout Christian that prays every day.  I didn't tell her not to pray, but to use everything at her disposal and not to just leave it to prayer alone.  Prayer is a powerful tool, but I feel it is also wise to get help where you can, and I believe that is one of the ways that God helps us.  I do believe when one feels strongly enought that he or she is healed by the power of prayer, that our minds can tell us that we are healed, much like the phony televangelists that tell people to send them money so they can pray and heal them.  Sometimes these people believe so strongly that they are healed.  The mind can do wonders, and so can prayer.  I am sorry if I offended you or anyone else.

I didn't simply say I became a Christian and everything got better. I said, I had to work through some issues and then my anxiety went away. I also said that the person should pray for discernment about what is causing their anxiety. And I do believe that God has given doctors the wisdom to treat all kinds of things and that sometimes medication is necessary. But shame on you for saying that my comments would not be of much help. I only spoke of my personal experience. If you're such a devout Christian yourself why would you say such a thing to a person who is seeking help? After all, God is referred to as the Great Physician. What better "doctor" to refer a hurting person to than that?

Thank you for responding kindly. I guess I was a little offended, but I'm over it now. God is just such a big part of my life that I don't know how to speak any other way. My Christian walk is not something I do on Sunday mornings, it's who I am and it's how I live. I wouldn't want to be any other way because I know how good He is and I just want others to know Him too. So please forgive me if I was a little snippy with you.

The person that told you she became a Christian and everything got better won't be of much help to you.  Don't get me wrong,I am a devout Christian and always have been, but like the saying goes, God helps those that help themseleves. Some people that have just found religion believe that they will be healed of anxiety, and that in itself is the brain healing you.  Sort of like a placebo.  That's why God gave us doctors and occassionally something like Xanax.  It's true that Xanax or any benzo can become addictive, but if used correctly they can help you through your anxiety.  Anxiety usually does go away after time.  It may come back years later but you deal with it again.  People have gotten to the point where they fear meds too much.  Alcohol can cause you to become an alcoholic, but most people who drink don't become alcoholics.  Anxiety can be a horrible experience, but there are plenty of things that can help you out.  You can add prayer to that if you want, it sure can't hurt.  Instead of God just curing your anxiety, maybe he will point you to the right doctor so you can get the help you need.

Your anxiety is back!  Let your body get used to the meds again...if they don't work this time, you may need something else..I feel for you...I know how horrible it is and just know that you are not alone.

In my opionion, I think it is all anxiety, I have batteled anxiety for going on 2 years now, One day I noticed that my heart was skipping beats and that i could actually feel them skipping. this freaked me out and i immediately went to see my doctor i had a echocardigram and a ekg and also a heart monitor and a chest xray done they all came back normal and my doctor said to try and calm down this is easier said than done.  He put me on Lexapro 10 but it created anxiety for me.  I am on my way to see a pschiatrist next week to see if he can put me on something else.  I also feel that i am going crazy and am going to die. I find myself looking back on old times before anxiety and wanting so badly to get back to those days.  I think you should go to a pschiatrist they know what your going threw and can help you good luck.

I suffered from anxiety when I was a teen and into my early 20's. My hands used to go numb and I felt like I was in a bubble, like life was going on around me, but I felt detached from it. I would become so overwhelmed at times that I would even pass out. I couldn't be alone, yet I didn't want anyone to touch me. I just didn't want to be by myself. I couldn't even take a shower without someone having to sit in the bathroom with me because my body was so numb and yet so overly sensitive all at the same time that I couldn't even stand the way the water felt on my skin. When I got older there were many times I was afraid to get in the car and go places. I suffered this way for about 15yrs. There were 2 things that helped me to overcome that debilating anxiety. The first was that I just made myself do things even when I didn't think I could. My husband was a great encouragement for me. He wouldn't do things for me, but he'd coach me along so I'd go out of my comfort zone. The second thing is that I bacame a Christian and soon after that my pastor began working with me on some issues from my past. After about 3 years or so, my anxiety was gone. Some people have anxiety because of hormonal or chemical imbalance in the body, but I believe that many people are suffering mostly because of undealt with issues in their lives. Medication might help a person for a period of time, but if the anxiety is being brought on by issues that need to be worked through, then the only thing that medication is going to do is make the person's symptoms better, but it won't cure the problem. I think you should just pray for discernment about what the cause of your anxiety is so you'll know what you need to help you. I'm personally not a big supporter of anxiety meds and antidepressants. Those things never helped me. God coming into my life and helping me was so much better than anything else I'd ever tried. I just hate to hear it when someone is suffering so much this way. I'll remember you in my prayers.
