i think my husband is taking to muck xanax

my husband has been taking 5mg of xanax for a while now i found out the other day that he is taking 3 or 4 pills of 5mg a day he has been getting mean and then every emotional. is he taking to much or could there be something else.

If he is taking up to 2mg a day and has been for a while he is in for a pretty tough withdrawal. This is a drug that should by no means be stopped cold turkey, you have to tapper off it slowly. Xanax is fine for situational anxiety but that's it.
