you know its funny that this was posted, I tried to quit smoking MJ a year ago, and that's when all my anxiety came out, the doctor told me that it was just putting a blanket over everything and when I stopped smoking the blanket came off and BOOM there was the anxiety... I did stop for a month or so and then started back up (Bad mistake).... I just stopped again about a week ago and honestly I did feel some of the anxiety symptoms go away, NOW don't get me wrong or anything it didn't make my anxiety disappear, as I am still going through some trouble some symptoms, either from anxiety or not smoking any more, My appetite is shot, can hardly fall asleep.. I did have these problems before and like I said either from the anxiety or not smoking, but I noticed that since I haven't smoked the lightheaded/dizzy feeling as almost went away, again anxiety or not smoking?? but I say drop the MJ it only makes anxiety worse as it does make you more paranoid and increases your heart rate which then can lead to a panic attack. Took me a while to figure that one out myself =/ overall I'm already glad that I quit again!
Just a comment -- I see often on here somewhat of a misunderstanding of the term addiction. Marijuana isn't addictive in any way, mentally or otherwise. Having a habit isn't an addiction. We're also addicted to lots of things -- food, water, oxygen, for example. But we can be habituated to certain types of food, which isn't an addiction. The two terms shouldn't be used interchangeably, since the consequences of addiction are so much more than the consequences of a habit, even a bad one. I would like to say to the poster, often marijuana causes the anxiety or depression inside someone to come out. If you're on Effexor because of depression, perhaps all you ever needed to do was stop the MJ.
Perhaps you should seek some help from someone familiar with addiction? MJ isn't physically addictive, but mentally is a whole different story. How much do you smoke and how long have you been smoking it?
You should just quit the weed cold turkey if you are on effexor. You are mixing 2 mind altering substances, so the effects of the med will not be what they should be.
Whether or not it is harder to quit is immaterial. I don't think cutting down is an option, but perhaps someone else knows more about this subject.
