is the house contaminated?

The other day i plugged the toilet (yes there was poop in it).  Since i was visiting my mom i didnt know where the plunger was so i asked for help. she disappeared and returned with a stick and began puling out tp with the stick into the trash dripping water all over the rug and the floor. she then touched the trash and picked up the rug which touched her clothes and proceeded to move around the house normally, laying in bed, sitting on the chair, cooking in the kitchen,  etc. i am terrified she has contaminated the entire house. Has she?
how easily do things transfer? Is the toilet water truly contaminated or is it just water as she says? I have been told that poop germs die, is this true? if so how long before it dies? My fear is not getting sick but getting poop or poop germs on me. I am hoping to get a professional answer from a dr. not just peoples' opinions. Thank you.

I would disinfect for sure. But I am a huge germaphobe I dont know what I wouldve done. Lysol works on soft surfaces so that will help with the rug etc and then just get a really good one for everything else.
Sorry I just noticed you wanted a doctors advice not people's opinions. I dont believe many doctors come in this forum so you may want to check somewhere else.

Sorry, meant to say "dogs" not "iogs".

It's always good to clean and disinfect your hands and areas you touch after messing with such a task. I can't say for sure she contaminated everything she touched, but it is possible. Germs, bacteria, viruses, mold, and other such contaminates are transferred easily through touch IF they are present. Toilet water is what some dogs drink if they can, and although iogs stomachs are supreme compared to humans in what they can eat and drink, if there was waste in the water, specifically stool, then there can be bacterias and other such uglies. All germs with even with proper conditions will die, although they can multiply and spread, not in area as much as in numbers, however, they can die off somewhat fast on surfaces that are not moist, dark or light (depending on what germ or bacteria it is). I am not a doctor, what I have told you is true, feel free to ask someone else, or research it yourself.

Now, I told you the truth for one reason, not to freak you out, but to give you an honest answer.

Here is the good news, and it's all the truth as well.

If you buy disinfectant wipes from the store, and wipe down the house, you can make sure those germs/bacteria are dead. If your mom is not sick from the incident by now, chances are she won't be. All you need to do is clean clothes, surfaces, and your hands afterward and you should be very very safe. Germs and bacteria are real, and they present real threats, however, simple things like washing hands and disinfecting surfaces eliminates the problem the same amount the wipes work 99.9%. People who become afraid of germs don't understand that bacteria/germs have to be present for them to be a threat, and after you disinfect an area it's clean for sure. There is NO reason to be afraid of germs/bacteria, just reason to respect and understand it.
