klonipin withdrawal

hello everyone! i need your help! i am a 24 year old male.  i have been on clonazepam(generic klonipin (klonopin)) for a couple of months now(anxiety) and have been taking it daily since around christmas.  i am ready to get off this medicine! i think this is causing my heart palpitations. dont like it.  but i need some advice on how to best withdraw off of this medicine.  my doctor has not been of much help.  i dont know what to do and i want to withdraw from this benzo as painlessly as possible.  anyone with advice please give?

Hi Chris!  From what I've heard the best way is to gradually taper down.  You didn't mention what strength you're taking, but here's an example:  if you're currently on 1mg, try taking 1/2mg for a week or 2.  If that goes OK, then taper to 1/4mg for a couple weeks, then to nothing!  I will say it's easier said than done, but if you follow that type of schedule it should help.  You really should make sure you have your doctor's approval before trying this though.  Also, I'm kind of doubtful about Klonopin causing heart palpitations, but I guess if you get off of it, then you could see if the palpitations go away.  I hope this has helped!
