thanks for the reply.... thats why i asked her for the zanix...yes i do have some depression, single mom, sons father incarerated at this time, many family issues, personal relationship issues and finanacial issues due to not be able to work, im on SSD die to car accident,  constant pain  but in phy therapy and pain mangement...its just all so overwhelming so this of coarse depresses me, ad everyone just tells me its in my mind get over it but i cant seem to!!1 but my main thing is the constant anxiety and worry...when i had taken then zanix it not only kept me calm but it seemed to help to feel less depressed.... i still have a few zanix from a previous script but wasnt sure if i could take it while on te lexapro....my sis takes zoloft and swears by it but she also takes klonopin. my dad said maybe see a therapist and they might be better at finding a regimen that works best for me... thank you so much for your reply.. i was starting to feel that i was just flipppping out....

There is one thing that you can consider and discuss with your Dr. You could try the Lexapro with xanax to calm your anxiety, then wean off the xanax after the Lexapro begins to work. Or, you could discuss taking valium, which will provide you with relief, too.  You'll know fairly quickly if you can tolerate the Lexapro.

Everyone is different...but if your true problem is anxiety, you might be better served taking something like valium and get some psychotherapy to help you deal with the causes of the anxiety. It's important to get into the therapy, as this proves to be the most effective for best results.

If your depression is mild, studies that have shown that AD's really aren't much better than placebo.
Again, there are things to discuss with your treating physician.

Good luck...

Ok....your doctor is correct.  Xanax can be habit forming over a long period of time.  Lexapro is an SSRI and while I have not taken that one, I have taken Zoloft which is also an SSRI, so I will tell you my experience with them.  SSRI's can cause a little more anxiety in the beginning, but as your body gets used to it, it will subside in my experience.  Xanax is a benzo, which is a shorter acting minor tranquelizer like Ativan and other meds in that class.

With me, an SSRI like Lexapro, has really helped me get through things as long as it is combined with talk therapy; that is the most important step you can do to understand your anxiety.  By learning about it, it will give you the knowledge to confront it and actually thrive with this.  Hope this helps just a little bit!
