Hi Toots! Wish I had an answer for you, but not being a pharmacist limits me! LOL
Pretty much any benzo is going to carry some "addictive" qualities with it and naturally some withdrawal issues when you want to stop. Nature of the beast.
If you can't tolerate antidepressants, I'm really stumped as to what to suggest. You say you do fine on the Librium and that may be your only option. A good long natter with your doctor about your fear of addiction might ease your mind. Becoming dependant on any kind of medication does not turn you into a street junkie. When the time comes you want to stop the Librium, your doctor will schedule a very slow and gradual taper.
Your doctor and your pharmacist are the ones you need to talk to.
I wish you the best
Peace

Hey pengi...............
You might also want to think about getting into some therapy. There are many, many people out here who do just fine with therapy alone. Why shouldn't you be one of them?
Also, check out our Complimentary Medicine Forum for great advice on natural remedies. (Talk with Paxiled........he's extremely knowledegable)
If you can use the Librium on a PRN (as needed) basis, that would be great. Often times just knowing we have something in our purse to help us if we start to freak out is enough to calm us down.
Hope you hang around and let us know how you're doing.
Peace
